Ruth Audrey Meyer

Apr 3, 1921 – Nov 29, 2006

Ruth Audrey Meyer, 85, passed away at Lincoln Village Convalescent Center on Wednesday, November 29, 2006. She was born in Racine on April 3, 1921, daughter of the late Edward and Eliza (nee: Knuth) Scholtz and lived as part of a large family.

Ruth had a long working career at Moxness Products in Racine. She grew up and lived in the family farmhouse and continued there, dedicating her early adult years to caring for her ailing mother and her beloved animal companions. There were always family dogs and cats in her home. Ruth enjoyed many activities over the years, spending much time with her sister, Leone. Ruth is fondly remembered for her great love of animals. Her other passions were natural history and reading. She always had an interesting, non-fiction book nearby and a magnificent wealth of information on most topics. Her love of learning and reading was a positive influence on her close family and friends. We also fondly remember that she was “The World’s Greatest Jello Salad Maker” for all the holidays!

She is survived by her niece, Bernice ‘Betty’ Poetschke of Racine; grandnieces, Mary (Alan) Mollerskov of Racine and Margaret (Paul) Empie of Denver, Iowa; grandnephew, Robert Poetschke of Harrison, Ark.; as well as great-grandnephews, Jay and Tim Mollerskov and Jonathan Empie; and friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Leone Valley, Benice Rossman, and Edna Rieder; and her brothers, Edward Miller and Albert Miller.

A service of Remembrance will be held in the chapel at Mound Cemetery on Monday, December 4, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will immediately follow. All are invited to gather with Ruth’s small family on Monday at 10:15 a.m. for the short service. Memorials to Casa Cesar Chavez have been suggested.
