
Stanley Stempe, 93, died in the Becker Shoop Center on Sunday, December 10, 2006. He was born in Racine on September 27, 1913, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (nee: Maher) Stempe. On April 6, 1940, he married the former Grace S. Wojtecki in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Racine. She preceded him in death on September 15, 2006.
Mr. Stempe had been employed by the Massey-Ferguson Co. for over 45 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church, former member of Local 244, and the Quarter of a Century Club at Massey-Ferguson, where he held several offices. Mr. Stempe was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at his camp in Buffalo City and was famous for his fish fries. He also enjoyed golfing and watching the Packers and Badgers.
Surviving are his children, Mary (James) Dengel of West Bend, Susan (Donald) Tempesta of Racine, Jane (Cliff) Grevstad of Burnsville, MN, Nancy Cohen and Jon Stempe both of Racine; 12 grandchildren, Jay (Pam) Dengel of Mankato, MN, Tracy (Dan) Stahlkopk of Oak Creek, Laura (Pete) Reynolds, Lisa (Paul) Drdak, Don (Heidi) Tempesta, Michael Tempesta and Julie Tempesta all of Racine, Andrew Grevstad, Dana Grevstad both of Burnsville, MN, Carl Grevstad of Milwaukee, Kristen Cohen and Ted Cohen both of Racine; 11 great-grandchildren , Katlyn, Ethan, Will, Frances, Grace, Michael, Jacob, Ben, Austin, Allison and Alex; her sister-in-law Mildred Pivek of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Lee R. Cohen and by his sisters and brothers, Angeline Dupuis, Helen Anderson, Bernice Knauer, George Stempe and Willard Stempe.
His funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, December 13th, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kinzie Ave. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to LLCCC- Becker Shoop Center.
