Richard John Zamagne

Dec 9, 1925 – Mar 3, 2007

Racine- Richard John Zamagne, 81, passed away, following a brief stay at Oak Ridge Care Center, on Saturday, March 3, 2007. A lifetime resident, Dick was born in Racine on December 9, 1925 to John and Mary (nee: Commodore) Zamagne. A 1943 graduate of Washington Park High School, he went on to faithfully serve our Country with the United States Navy in the last year of WWII. In Racine, on June 29, 1946, Dick was united in marriage with the love of his life, Patricia Ruth Taylor. He was employed by the Outboard Marine Corp. in Waukegan, IL retiring as a plant engineer after 30 years. Dick was a boating enthusiast to say the least. He was a proud member of the Fifth Street Yacht Club, captaining his boats “PDQ” and “Idle Rich”. He also served as Commodore of the yacht club years ago. In addition, he enjoyed wintering in Arizona, dancing with his beloved Patty, and creating beautiful stained glass art. Above all, Dick’s entire family was priority one in life. Surviving are his loving wife of over 60 years, Pat; children, Wayne (Lory) Zamagne of Kila, MT; Wendy (Paul) Yaekel, Perry (Laura) Zamagne, both of Racine; and John Zamagne of Tucson, AZ; his mother, Mary Zamagne of Racine; grandchildren, Nathan and Tasha Zamagne; Danita Saldivar; Jeremy Yaekel; Naomi Hensman; Joel and Shirah Yaekel; Holley and Terri Zamagne; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Marvin Applin; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his father, John Zamagne; and by sister, Lorraine Applin. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 10 am in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Road. Interment, with military honors, will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 5-7 pm and Friday from 9-10 am. A heartfelt note of thanks to the special Physicians and caregivers at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints, especially the staff of ICU for the compassionate care and support that was given over the past few months.
