Racine- Marvin L. Applin, 72, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded with the love of his family, on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 following a courageous four-time battle with cancer. Marvin was born in Gaastra, Michigan on May 11, 1935 to the late John “Jack” and Luella (nee: Battye) Applin. On February 12, 1955 he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Lorraine B. Zamagne. Marv’s heart was broken when she passed away on December 8, 2006. Marvin was a heavy construction equipment operator his entire working career. Although he was trained on virtually all equipment, deep sewer tunnel excavating was his speciality and cable rig operating was truly his forte. He was a longtime member of the Operating Engineers Local 139. His first priority in life was his family. A jack-of-all trades, Marv was always willing and able to lend a helping hand or give advice on projects for family and friends. Marvin was a woodworking enthusiast who created flawless pieces of work during his lifetime. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and traveling Out-West. Following the death of Lorraine 6 months-ago and having to cope with ailments of his own, Marv fulfilled his lifelong dream of purchasing a motorcycle. Above all, as-long as he was with family, he was happy. Surviving are his children, Glenn (Alice) Applin, Gina (Richard) Anderson and Lisa (Tim) Hyland; grandchildren, Harlan Applin and Jason Applin; sisters, Merle Speiser and Emilie Gagnea; brother-in-law, Donald Boutell; sister-in-law, Patricia Zamagne; and by many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Marvin was preceded in death by his brother, George Applin; sisters, Marion (Carl) Carlson, Corrine Boutell and Charlotte (Bryant) Allen; brothers-in-law, Odean Gagnea, Paul Speiser and Richard Zamagne; and his in-laws, John and Mary (nee: Commodore) Zamagne. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Friday, June 15, 2007 at 11 am with Rev. John Fleming officiating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8 pm and on Friday from 10-11 am. In memory of Marv, memorials to Hospice Alliance has been suggested. Special thanks to Hospice Alliance, Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center, Dr. Michael P. Mullane and Dr. Iftekhar Bader for the compassionate care and support that was so genuinely offered in Dad’s time of need. Your friendship and many acts of kindness will always be remembered!
