Herbert Alphonse Crane

Mar 4, 1918 – Aug 21, 2007

Racine- Herbert Alphonse Crane, 89, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Tuesday, August 21, 2007. A lifetime resident, Herb was born in Racine on March 4, 1918 to the late James V. and Clara E. (nee: Gattie) Crane. Affectionately nicknamed “Curly” by his friends in his younger years, he was a graduate of Washington Park High School. On September 21, 1938 in Dubuque, Iowa, he was united in marriage with Irma Virginia Lassen, who preceded him in death on May 3, 2003. For many years, Herb owned and operated the H.A. Crane Co., a distributor of tractor/mower equipment. Following, he sold residential and commercial real estate. Golfing and fishing were favorite pastimes. Surviving are his daughters, Lynne Leithleiter, Judy (Tom) Benko, Peggy Crane and Cory Robey; grandchildren, Michele (Dean) Naylor, April Leithleiter, Brenda (Steve) Sharman, Heidi Leithleiter, Gary Benko, Bill (Teri) Benko, Christine (Carlos) Lopez, Cheryl (Robert) MacDonald, Michael (Sandi) Christensen, Karen Christensen, Matthew Soetenga, Sarah Soetenga, Robin (Mike) Zigas, Amy (Mike) Axelson and Ryan Robey; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Nancy Dancho) Crane; and by other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Herb was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Crane. In accordance with Herb’s wishes, cremation has taken place and private services will be held. Interment will be on the Crane family section in Mound Cemetery.
