
Racine – Edward L. Martin, 61, passed away at Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha on Tuesday, September 11, 2007. He was born in Taylor, Mississippi on March 29, 1946, son of the late Curtis and Laellar (nee: Carothers) Most of his life he had lived in Racine. On August 12, 1977 in Racine he was united in marriage to Julia Mae Grandberry. Rick was a member of Searching Together MB Church. He was a man of deep faith and commitment to Christ, serving his Lord by singing with the Starlight Gospel Singers, and studying his bible. He was employed at JI Case for 27 years until retiring in 1991. Rick liked to hunt and fish whenever he could, and traveling to Mississippi to visit relatives, but most of all he loved to be with his family and grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Julia Martin; children, Mandy (Bryant) Holloway, Effrem Grandberry, Katrina Grandberry, James Martin, Julia C. Martin, Edward Martin, Jr., and step-son, William Grandberry; 16 grandchildren; sisters, Frances (Willie) Ramsey, Lelia Carothers, Reatha Ramsey, and Ossie Hilliard; brothers, Curtis (Patricia) Martin, Hubert Martin all of Racine, and Joel (Faye) Martin of Columbus, Mississippi; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Annie (Varnon) Stevenson, Lula (Harold) Keys, Emma Carothers, Patricia Johnson, Reatha Grandberry, Jessie Martin, Robert (Marie) Grandberry, Sammie (Elizabeth) Grandberry, James Grandberry, and especially Barbara Martin; special niece, LaVegas Martin; and special friends Lillard and Patricia Darby, James Vinson, and Finner Hopkins; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. He was also preceded by his sister, Shirley Martin; and brother Carvin Martin. Homegoing services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, September 17, 2007 at Searching Together MB Church with Rev. Willie Riley, Jr. officiating. Internment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be in the funeral home on Sunday the 16th from 3 – 6 pm, and Monday in the church beginning at 10 a.m. The Martin family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Aurora Medical Center, and the Sheridan Medical Complex for your kindness and understanding, as well as the professional and compassionate care that was given to our loved one.
