Margaret F. Rasmussen

Racine – Margaret F. Rasmussen, 85, passed away at Lakeshore Manor on Tuesday, October 23, 2007. She was born in Rockford, Illinois on November 1, 1921, the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes (nee: Lawler) Bell. She was a graduate of Bishop Muldoon High School. She was married in 1948 to Herman N. Rasmussen, who preceded her in death in 1993. Margaret devoted her life to her nursing career. Following her graduation from the St. Anthony School of Nursing in Rockford, she served as a 2nd Lt. with the Army in Europe from 1944-1946. After the war she entered Marquette University where she earned her BS in Public Health Nursing. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit, and St. Luke’s Hospital in Racine, and served with the Wisconsin State Board of Health on demonstration projects on Maternal and Child Health. She was the Executive Director of the Racine Visiting Nurses Association until her retirement in 1985, and continued to volunteer with the Health Care Network. Margaret was a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church. She is survived by her brothers, Tom and Verna Bell, and Raymond and Vivienne Camacho all of Rockford; sister-in-law, Fae Rasmussen of Seattle, Washington; cousins Barbara Reeves of Houston, and Jo Ann (John) Weibel of Racine. She is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives and good friends including, Inga Harrits, Bea Valley, and Dennis Mortensen. Memorial services will be held in the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2007 with Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen officiating. All are invited to gather in the funeral home beginning at 1:30 p.m. Memorials to the Health Care Network or St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested. The family and friends of Margaret Rasmussen would like to extend their appreciation to Bernie Flores, Dir., and to everyone on the staff at Lakeshore Manor for their kindness, exceptional professional care, and friendship.
