Maryellen Przytarski, 74, passed away in Wheaton Franciscan Hospital on Tuesday, November 27, 2007. She was born in Racine on December 11, 1932, the daughter of the late Edward and Alice (nee: Oertel) Petersen. Maryellen was a 1952 graduate of St. Catherine’s High School. She also graduated from Our Lady of the Angels Nursing College where she learned to be a child nurse. She worked many years in New York , Texas and Lake Forest, IL. as a nurse. Later, and before her marriage, she worked for Racine County Department of Social Services. In her earlier years she was active in the Insurance Women of Racine. If there was a cause needing help she helped. On July 29, 1972, in Holy Name Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Robert Przytarski., this gave her three bonus children. Maryellen was a very active member of St. Paul the Apostle Church; She served 3 terms as the parish council president. She served on many committees, generally as the chairperson. Maryellen was a member of the Catholic Women Club, a Life-Member of the Racine Instinctive Bowmen, and twice was their Woman of the Year. She was also active in the Ladies of Columbus. Surviving are her husband, Robert; their children, Debra (Chester) Luby, Michael (Tami) Przytarski, and Suellen Przytarski; grandchildren, Scharna Thorton, Kathy and Allisa Luby, great-grandchild Aarlyn Thorton; sister-in-law Nancy (Don) Jobe, lifelong friends Val (Koran) Schook and Phyllis Nelson. Many uncles and aunts who were her lifelong friends further survive her. In addition to her parents her brother, Tom Petersen and her very close uncle, Jim Oertel preceded her in death. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., on Friday, November 30th, at 10:30 a.m. for her Funeral Mass, with Rev. Paul M. Esser officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. The family has suggested memorials to either St. Paul the Apostle Church or St. Sebastian’s School.
