Maggie Lee Garth

Mar 25, 1943 – Mar 17, 2008

Racine- Maggie Lee Garth, 64, passed away peacefully at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center on Monday, March 17, 2008 following a valiant 5-year battle with cancer. The first born of 23 children, Maggie was born in Okolona, Mississippi on March 25, 1943 to Eddie and Lillie Mae (nee: Ware) Gates. On December 24, 1964, she was united in marriage with her childhood sweetheart, Walter Garth. With a profound Christian faith, Maggie was a proud member of New Omega Baptist Church. Among her interests, she enjoyed shopping, cooking and traveling. Above all, she loved and treasured being in the surroundings of her entire family. Surviving are her loving husband of over 43 years, Walter; their children, Derell (Felicia Shelley) Garth and Aton Garth; 11 grandchildren; 21 brothers and sisters; and countless nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to her parents, Maggie was preceded in death by her youngest brother, who passed away just one week prior. Funeral services will be held in Maggie’s beloved New Omega Baptist Church, 5731 Northwestern Ave., on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11:00 am with Rev. Fred L. Richmond officiating. Private interment will be held Graceland Cemetery. Viewing will be in New Omega Church on Saturday from 10-11 am.
