Richard F. Pofahl

Richard F. Pofahl, 84, passed away in the Lutheran Home, Wauwatosa, on April 20, 2010. Richard was born in Kenosha on November 5, 1925 the son of the late of Frank and Ethel (nee: Smith) Pofahl. Richard served his country with the U.S. Army and the Merchant Marines. On October 25, 1944, in the First Congregational Church, Kenosha, he was united in marriage to the former Doris J. Nordstrom, who remained the center of Richard’s world from then right to the end. Richard had been employed by Massey-Harris and later drove for Werner Continental and Hall’s Motor Freight for over 33 years. Richard was a member of Moose Lodge #437-Racine, the Blind Veterans of America, and a retiree of Teamsters Local #200. Surviving are his beloved wife, Doris; their children, Gary (Karen) Pofahl, of Milwaukee, Gene (Cindy) Pofahl, of Grand Junction, CO, Greg (Sue) Pofahl, of Racine, Glen (Christine) Pofahl, of Janesville, Laurie (Roger) Rathbun, of Lebanon, TN, and Gerald (Sharon) Pofahl, also of Racine; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter to be born in June; sister, Ruth Greer, of Waupaca, and sister-in-law, Frances Petrick, of Racine. His nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends further survive him. A graveside memorial service, with full military honors, will be held in the chapel of Forest Hill Cemetery, 3301 E. Forest Hill Ave. Oak Creek, WI, on Monday, April 26th at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Kara Baylor officiating. The family has suggested memorials to Vitas Hospice.
