DeWayne J. Mercier

vet
Jul 21, 1918 – Sep 5, 2010

Mr. DeWayne J. Mercier, 92, died at WFH-All Saints on Sunday, September 5, 2010.

He was born in Rice Lake on July 21, 1918 to the late Charles and Delphine (nee: Chartier) Mercier.  On September 8, 1945, he married the love of his life, Anne Veronica Slivon in Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

A proud veteran, Mr. Mercier faithfully served his country in the European Theater with the U.S. Army during WWII.  After his military discharge he worked for SC Johnson Wax for 36 years, retiring as a packaging engineer in 1981.

Mr. Mercier was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for over 50 years until its closure in 1997.  Since then he attended St. Lucy Catholic Church.

In earlier years, Mr. Mercier volunteered many hours with the Boy Scouts and the Racine Scout Drum and Bugle Corps.  However, in his later years his focus was centered on his involvement with his grandchildren, of whom he was very proud.

In addition to his loving wife, Anne, his survivors include his children, James (Lynn) Mercier, Kathy (Robert) Klinkhammer; grandchildren, Mark, Tim and Dan Mercier, Jason Price, Sr., Russell Jackson; great grandson, Jason “J.J.” Price, Jr. all of Racine; brother and sisters; Charles (Peggy) Mercier of Maryland, Doris (Jack) Erickson of Minnesota, Marion (John) Van Helden of Montana, Mary Jane “Dolly” Scott of Racine, Donna Meyers of Rice Lake; sisters-in-law, Addie Mercier, Edith Mercier both of Kenosha; other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law on Anne’s side; as well as many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Elaine Stooldryer, Irene Krippner, Lucille Krippner, Jeanette Wistrand; and his brothers, Morris, Vern and Wally Mercier.

Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Lucy Catholic Church (3101 Drexel Ave.) on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. for the celebration of his life and funeral mass with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating.  Following the mass there will be military honors recognizing his service in the U.S. Army. There will be a visitation in the funeral home on Wednesday evening, September 8th (which would have been their 65th wedding anniversary) from 5-7 p.m. and again in the church on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. His interment will follow the mass and military honors at St. George Cemetery in Kenosha.  Memorials have been suggested to St. Lucy Catholic Church.
