Michael W. Webster

vet
Mar 1, 1946 – Apr 15, 2011

Delavan (formerly of Racine) – Michael  “Mike” Webster, 65,  passed away peacefully at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital on Friday, April 15, 2011.

Mike was born in Racine on March 1, 1946 to the late William and Rose (nee: Andersen) Webster. A graduate of William Horlick High School, he went on to faithfully serve our country with the United States Army in Vietnam as a Communications Specialist. On September 30, 1995 at Wustum Museum, Mike was united in marriage with MaryBeth Aldrich. They moved to Delavan in 2003.

Mike was employed as a cable repair technician at AT&T for over 35 years, retiring in 2005. During his career, he was an outspoken advocate for justice and workers’ rights. Mike served as President of Communication Workers of America Local 4611 for over 12 years; he also served as President of the Racine Labor Paper and the Racine Labor Center.   Mike was awarded “Labor Person of the Year” in 1987; and Mike & MaryBeth where named “Mr. and Mrs. Solidarity” in 1996. Outside of work, Mike enjoyed camping, fishing and golfing – accomplishing a hole-in-one at Lake Lawn Lodge.  Above all, Mike's favorite times were when he was surrounded by family.

Surviving are his loving wife, MaryBeth Aldrich of Delavan; daughter, April (Ron) Saal of Union Grove; son, Jerame (Maria) Leger of Racine; grandchildren, Brandon Webster; Cody, Austin and Hailey Saal; April Fisher; Yenessa and Estreya Leger; father-in-law, Don Aldrich; sisters-in-law, Cathy Aldrich and Eileen (Bill) McShea; nieces and nephew, Erin, Kelly, Kevin, Meghan and Colleen McShea; uncles, Ken Aldrich and Viggo Andersen; aunt, Lilly Krueger; many other special relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his dear son, Bradley Webster, who died in a tragic automobile accident on April 21, 1995;  mother-in-law, Celeste Aldrich; and many other relatives.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 10:30 am with Rev. Dr. Tony Larsen officiating. Military honors will follow. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 pm and on Thursday from 9:30-10:30 am. Private entombment will take place in the S. Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In memory of Mike, memorials may be made to the family – which will be distributed to his favorite charities at a later date.

A heartfelt note of thanks to the entire staff at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital for the compassionate care and support; for successfully treating  Mike’s diagnosis of cancer in 2006 and for doing all you could to save him through his most recent illness.    We will never forget your kindness and genuine concern in our time of need.
