Wayne R. Legois

Racine- Wayne R. Legois, 80, passed away peacefully at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Cardiovascular Institute on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.

Waynewas born in Kingsford, MI on December 31, 1931 to the late Richard and Marie (nee: Simmet) Legois. A 1949 graduate of Kingsford High School, he went on to attend engineering school at Marquette University. Wayne faithfully served our Country with the United States Air Force in the Korean War from 1949-52.  

Waynewas employed as a field repair specialist for Wisconsin Bell Telephone Co. for 10 years. Following, he went on to become President of Cullen-Legois Mfg. in Sturtevant for over 27 years, retiring in 2008. On October 4, 1986 he was united in marriage with (in Wayne’s own words) “best friend and love of his life”, Rose M. (nee: Wenszell) Legois. Their marriage was blessed by Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen in St. Lucy Catholic Church on October 12, 2002.  

Waynewas a proud member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. Always concerned about the well-being of others, he was a volunteer firefighter on the Sturtevant Fire Department for over 20 years, retiring as Fire Chief.  Wayne served on the Sturtevant Village Board, Sturtevant Chamber of Commerce, and was awarded “Citizen of the Year” in 1992. He was affectionately referred to as “Mr. Fix It” by family and friends as there was nothing that Wayne could not repair. Above all, Wayne loved and cherished being in the surroundings of his entire family.

Surviving are his loving wife, Rose; children, Richard (Denice) Legois, Tom (Angela Reise) Legois, Andy (Jennifer) Kothe, Dan (Terri) Kothe and Dawn (Jeff Andrews) Kothe; grandchildren, Rachal (fiancé, Anthony) Kothe, Eric (Melissa) Kothe and Kaci Kothe; sisters, Lavern (Dale) Salisbury and Audrey McCarthy; brother-in-law, Terry (Carol) Wenszell; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Lynzay Legois; sister, Lorrain (Earl) Poisson; and mother-in-law, Irene Wenszell.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11:00 am in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue, with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Military honors will follow. Private interment will take place at the S. Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 pm and in the church on Thursday from 10-11 am. Memorials to the Lynzay Legois Memorial Fund or to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

A heartfelt note of thanks to Dr. Michael Mullane, Dr. John Martini, and the entire nursing staff of All Saints Cardiovascular Institute for their compassionate care and support given in Wayne’s time of need. May God bless all of you!
