Dorothy Rose Sadowski

Oct 24, 1920 – Jan 2, 2009

Racine- Dorothy Rose (nee: Arcuri) Sadowski, 88, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Friday, January 2, 2009 following a courageous battle with cancer. A lifetime resident, Dorothy was born in Racine on October 24, 1920 to the late Amil and Elisa (nee: Ricchio) Arcuri. On April 27, 1946 in Holy Name Catholic Church, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Chester Richard Sadowski. With a profound Catholic faith, Dorothy was a long time member of Holy Name Catholic Church where she was active with the Christian Mothers and Altar Sodality. When she and Chet moved to the Northside of Racine many years ago, they became members of St. Rita Catholic Church. As a tireless homemaker, she loved nothing more than being in the surroundings of her entire family. Dorothy enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking and sharing her scrumptious homemade cookies with family and friends throughout Racine. Surviving are her loving husband of over 63 years, Chester; son, Timothy Sadowski; daughter, Elisa (James) Poulsen; grandchildren, Theresa (Michael) Sullivan, Rebecca (Rudy) Larson and Michael (Rachel) Poulsen; great-grandchildren, Zachary Sullivan; Samuel, Emolia, Maxmilian, Sophia and Genevieve Larson; sister, Laura Hammes; sister-in-law, Lou Sadowski; and many, many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Bernice (George) Jansta; brother, Rev. Frank Arcuri SJ; and brother-in-law, Douglas Hammes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 12:00 noon in St. Rita Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Ave., with Rev. Ray Elam OSA and Rev. Ronald J. Gramza concelebrating. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at St. Rita Church on Wednesday from 10 am – 12 noon. In memory of Dorothy, memorials may be made to St. Rita’s Church or to St. Richard’s Church.
