Margaret Louise Zalubowski

May 14, 1912 – Nov 12, 2009

Kenosha– Margaret Louise Zalubowski, 97, passed away at her home in the loving presence of her family on Thursday, November 12, 2009. Margaret was born on a small rural farm in Russell, IL on May 14, 1912 to the late Henry and Mary Helf. She married Lucian Francis Zalubowski on Oct. 12, 1929 at St. Casmir’s Catholic Church. Lucian passed away on Nov. 10, 1996. Margaret spent most of her life in Kenosha, living the past 11 years under the care of her daughter and son-in-law, Veronica and Tom Maurer, in Somers. As a talented seamstress, Margaret was employed by Cooper’s and Jockey International for many years. In retirement, she enjoyed helping Veronica and Tom with their family business, Maurer’s Garden and Floral. She kept her home and property meticulous and treated everyday chores sacredly. Margaret was an avid flower gardener and admirer of all of God’s creation. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A woman of strong faith, Margaret believed in praying her rosary daily. She enjoyed the challenge and rigor of solving daily crossword puzzles. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret loved nothing more than caring for, and sharing her life with, her family. Surviving are her daughters, Marjorie Griffin, Mary Montgomery, and Veronica (Thomas) Maurer; grandchildren, Judy (Ron) Brown, Robert Griffin, Matthew (Nicole) Maurer, Aimee (Michael) Suyko, Kathryn (Mitch) Liggett and Steven (Amy) Maurer; 14 great-grandchildren, Christina, Lisa, Laura, Michael, Megan, Ashley, Hannah, Ainslie, Parker, Colin, Owen, Max, Brennan and Mackenzie-Kay; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her brothers, Hank and John Helf; and sisters, Mabel Kettlehut and Clara Pingatore. She was the last surivivor of her parent’s children. As Margaret’s beloved St. Mary Catholic Church of Kenosha is undergoing an extensive renovation project, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue in Racine, on Monday, November 16, 2009 at 11 am with Rev. Michael T. Newman officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery – Kenosha. Visitation will be at St. Lucy’s Church in Racine on Monday from 10-11 am. In honor of the compassionate end-of-life care that Margaret received, memorials to Hospice Alliance has been suggested.

Testimonials

Joan Schrader and family

We want to thank Mike for the kindness and special attention he gave us for our mother. Marcella Conley. He came in the middle of the night himself to pick her up and take her to the funeral home. For the things that had to be taken care of, he told us not to worry; that it would be taken care of by him. Thank you also Mike for singing at her funeral, especially her favorite song, Amazing Grace. Thank you and all of your staff at Draeger-Langendorf.
