Jessie Earl Bland, Sr.

Jun 22, 1942 – Jun 23, 2010

Racine – Jessie Earl Bland, Sr., 68, passed away at WFH – All Saints Hospital on Wednesday, June 23, 2010. He was born in Meridian, Mississippi on June 22, 1942, the son of Otis and Ruth (nee: Green) Bland.  Following his graduation from Shirley Owens High School in Quitman, Mississippi, he moved to Racine. He was employed at JI Case for over 30 years.

A lifelong Cadillac owner, Jessie was known for his sense of style, dressing himself and his daughters fashionably.  He enjoyed sports with his only son, particularly his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers. But most of all, he was a southern boy at heart with an infectious laugh who enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.  He will be dearly missed by both his friends and family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Karen Bland of Enterprise, Mississippi, Jessie E. Bland, Jr. of Racine, Lisa Bland-Cooley of Quitman, Mississippi, Korie Bland of Kenosha, and Bridgett Bland-West of Wauwatosa; his long-time friend, Doris Bogan of Racine; his mother, Ruth Bland of Quitman, Mississippi; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; 1 sister and 3 brothers, Betty Ruth (John) Kidd, and CL (Sherry) Bland both of Racine, Otis Bland, Jr. of Sacramento, California, and Edward Bland of Quitman, Mississippi. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Minnie Pearl (Brother) Reed; and 2 great-granddaughters.

Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the New Omega Baptist Church (5731 Northwestern Avenue) with Rev. Fred Richmond officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held in the church on Monday evening from 5-7 p.m., and Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.

My prayers go out to the family. I had the pleasure to meet Jessie some years ago. I enjoyed his great sense of humor, and his crazy laugh. Jessie raised some wonderful children and I am happy to be a part of their lives. You will truely be missed.

Testimonials

December 19, 2016

I can’t say enough good things about Michael and his staff. They go above and beyond what is required of a funeral home. He has always met my desires and goes beyond what I ask. He always makes it a little more special. He has blessed me and my family many times and comforted us when we are aching because of our loss. I am always confident that he will do his very best, and he always has.
Thank you Michael and staff. May you all have a Blessed Christmas season and New Year

Julie Weyhrauch
