Dhameera Renee Shakoor

May 29, 1934 – Sep 3, 2015

Racine – Dhameera Renee Shakoor, 81, passed away at All Saints Hospital on Thursday, September 3, 2015. She was born in New Albany, Mississippi on May 29, 1934, daughter of the late Ira Lee and Mary Ella (nee: Mosley) Barker. On May 1, 1951 she was united in marriage to Qadeem Shakoor in W. Memphis, Arkansas. She and Qadeem moved to Racine shortly thereafter. Dhameera attended Gateway College to earn her degree in nursing, and from 1974 – 1988 she enjoyed caring for many residents at Westview nursing home, and Lincoln Lutheran nursing home.

She was a member of the Racine Islamic Center and she adored fellow-shipping with her Wayman AME family. She attended church regularly, enjoyed the church choir and had an unbelievable fondness for Pastor Ni'a.

Mrs. Shakoor is survived by her husband, Qadeem Shakoor I; her children, Janet (Eddie) Hardaway, and Kamillah (William) Hallmon both of Atlanta, Georgia, Qadeem “Q.A.” Shakoor II, Sameerah Hasan, and Gabriel Shakoor-Simpson all of Racine, and daughter-in-law Aaisha Flint of Waterloo, Iowa; 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; siblings, John Barker, Magnolia Williams, Mable Hendrix all of Racine, Mary Jamison of Memphis, Tennessee, Ruth Barker of Madison, Joseph Barker and Pearline Lee both of Chicago, Illinois, Emma Barker of Kenosha; and Shiela Nelson-Sudmine of East St. Louis, Illinois; godson Nabeeh El-Amin of Racine; and many other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Ollie May, Willie, and Arthur Lee; son-in-law Rafi K. Hasan I; and step-father Ollie Shareef.

Complete services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. Visitation will begin at 10am followed by a memorial service of remembrance at 11am. Imam Wali Shakoor-Luqman will lead the Salat al-Janazah (Islamic funeral prayer) at 12 noon. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

The Shakoor family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Becker-Shoop Health and Rehab for the loving care provided to Dhameera, and for the kindness shown to her and our family.
