George Elmer Suda

Feb 14, 1935 – Dec 30, 2015

George E. Suda, 80, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. He was born in Racine on February 14, 1935, son of the late George M. and Helen (nee: McCarthy) Suda. George was raised in Portage, Wisconsin and returned to Racine in the early 1960’s. He was a graduate of UW-Platteville and received his master’s degree from Cardinal Stritch University. On August 7, 1971 he was married to Helen Kaeser at Notre Dame Church in New Hyde Park, Long Island, New York.

George was a gifted teacher enjoying a long career at Horlick High School in Racine until he retired in 1992.  He believed education was the key to a fulfilling and valuable life, and he was proud his daughters chose careers in higher education.  George had a lifelong love of the outdoors and was passionate about conserving natural places and wildlife.

George is survived by his wife, Helen Suda of Racine; their daughters, Jeanne Suda of Mt. Pleasant, and Dr. Katie Suda (Christopher Bevel) of Chicago, Illinois; his sisters, JoEl Suda of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Therese Shoumaker of Paradise Valley, Arizona; as well as other relatives and friends.

In keeping with his wishes, a private Memorial Mass was held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, and he was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Racine. The family is proud George was part of the Wisconsin Donor Registry as he became a bone and tissue donor after his death. The family wishes to thank the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints Intensive Care Unit staff for their compassionate care and support.

Those wishing to remember George are encouraged to donate in his name to the River Bend Nature Center, Inc., riverbendnaturecenterracine.org; or the Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network, www.rootpikewin.org.

Mike Langendorf, my parents told me of your kindness, generosity, and servitude when we lost my brother. They needed that strength and your light came through. Thank you! Anne T.
