Mt. Pleasant – Thomas Hubbard, 68, passed away unexpectedly while on a Canadian fishing trip on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. Tom was born in Geneva, Illinois on November 24, 1947, the son of Paul and Ruth (nee: Nelson) Hubbard. Ruth passed away when he was a boy and later was adopted by Paul’s 2nd wife, Mary Ann Brown. Tom grew up in Batavia, IL. He was married in Wheaton, Illinois to the love of his life, Carol B. Hahn on August 23, 1969.

Tom dedicated 36 years to SC Johnson, where he was a Senior Corporate Auditor. His work there allowed him many enjoyable international travel opportunities. Tom and Carol also enjoyed traveling around the world. He treasured the memories of going camping while growing up and with his children across the U.S. Tom and Carol continued their U.S. travels in their RV in retirement.

He used his talent as a photographer for family photos and weddings, and capturing the beauty of nature. Tom also enjoyed fishing, and looked forward to the annual Canadian fishing trip with his buddies. Above all, his family was the most important to him, and he loved the time shared with his granddaughters.

Tom is survived by his wife Carol Hubbard of Mt. Pleasant; their children Scott (Kay) Hubbard of Hartland, Karen (Scott) Andrew of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Laura Hubbard of Mt. Pleasant; 4 granddaughters Ava and Liv Hubbard, Haley and Ashley Andrew; brother Robert (Kathy) Hubbard and Doug (Jean) Hubbard both of Batavia, Illinois; sister Leslie (Greg Corwin) Kalnes of St. Charles, Illinois; sisters-in-law Barb Hubbard (Robert Swesey) of North Redington Beach, Florida and Sue (Michael) Innes of Wheaton, Illinois; as well as many other relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Paul, Ruth and Mary Ann, his brother Richard Hubbard, brother-in-law David Kalnes, his mother-in-law, Bernice Hahn and father-in-law, Brent Hahn.

Family and friends are invited to gather in the funeral home on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 beginning at 12:00 p.m. for a visitation to meet with the family. A service remembering and honoring his life will follow at 2:00 p.m.

I am very saddened at Tom’s passing. When we were in 5th grade, we moved into the neighborhood, a little farther up North Ave, from his family, so I knew them well. I think we were in Cub Scouts together, with his mother as the leader. We were in school together.

And I met Carol and Tom right before they got married, at the drive-in in Aurora. We still talked about it at the reunion last year.

Tom was a great guy. I will miss him.

Michael,

First, let me start out by saying you were a God sent working with me for many years in preparations for my mom’s Homegoing Celebration December 7, 2024.  Even though this was our first time meeting in person, I felt like I already knew you.  Michael, you demonstrated  professionalism, empathy and, your warmth was surprising for me considering your role as a Funeral Director. Your attention to every detail, patient and support has made this process much easier for my family and me. I trusted you and you helped me find closure in a moment of great sadness, and for that we’re eternally grateful. I appreciate the time and energy you put into ensuring everything ran smoothly considering I reside in a different state.  Michael, my mom would have loved you and our family is forever grateful for your unwavering dedication and support during our season of grief.  May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. (Numbers 6:25)
