MOUNT PLEASANT – Gene R. Sems, 84, passed away at All Saints on Thursday, September 29, 2016.
Gene was born in Grand Island, NE on May 20, 1932, the son of the late Leo and Viola Sems. He served his nation with the US Army and received a Purple Heart during the Korean War.
On January 10, 1976 he married the love of his life, Gladys Mae Whiting at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Racine. Gene retired from Young Radiator after 26 years of service. After retirement he enjoyed driving a school bus.
Gene loved to go camping, bowling many years at Elmwood (The Lanes), visiting casinos, watching softball and being within the company of his family.
In addition to his loving wife, Gladys, he is survived by his sons, Leo (Terri) Sems of Appleton, Dean Sems, Geno (Jessica) Sems all of Racine; his six grandchildren, Amanda (Ed) Reindl, Jesse Sems, Cody (Amanda) Sems, Tatum Ruffalo, Sydney Aschenbrenner, Liam Aschenbrenner; his 4 great grandchildren, Aiden, Evan, Austin and Nevaeh; his step great grandchildren, Destiny and Hunter; his sister, Rosemary Scott of Rockford, IL; his brother-in-law, David (Kay Tierney) Johnson; sister-in-law, Lynn (Robert) Leisner; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife’s parents, Carl and Mary Whiting.
Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 for a visitation from 4-6 p.m. A service celebrating and honoring his life will follow at 6:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
The Sems family extends a heartfelt thank you to the entire ICU staff at All Saints for the excellent attention he received while under their care.
