Racine – David Ray Gustin, age 73, passed away peacefully at Ascension All Saints Hospital on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.

A lifetime resident, David was born in Racine on July 25, 1943 to the late Dean and Belva (nee: Elliott) Gustin. On April 14, 1962 in First United Methodist Church, he was united in marriage with Barbara Ann (nee: Jarrett).

Following graduation from vocational school, David was employed for many years at Racine Railroad Products. David enjoyed tinkering around with many projects in his garage, as he was very mechanical and could fix most anything.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, going on early morning scooter rides by the lake, and cutting his grass on his riding lawn mower! David was a master of the grill – specializing in pig roasts, making beef jerky and homemade sausage.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara; children, Steven (Karyn) Gustin, Lynn Gustin and Mary Gustin; grandchildren, Ashley (David Gergen) Gustin, Adrienne (Tony) Johansen, Melinda Taulbee, Carolyn Crusha, Ryan Wilson and Caleb Wilson; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Maxine Cornwell, Dean Gustin, Richard (Joyce) Gustin, Donna Bolin (David’s twin sister) and Ron (Mary) Gustin; mother-in-law, Kathleen Armson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jean Gustin, Diane Gustin, Charlotte (Marvin) Paul, Pat Raimer, Debbie Jarrett, Raymond Jarrett, Henry Armson and Louis “Yogi” (Kathy) Jarrett; longtime friend, Jim Tornoe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by brothers, Jim and Terry Gustin; sister-in-law, Diane Gustin; and brothers-in-law, Don Cornwell and Duane Jarrett.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, 2016 at 11:00 am in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home. A luncheon will follow. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 – 11:00 am. Private interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to the American Heart Association has been suggested.

A special note of thanks to the wonderful staff at Ascension All Saints Hospital for the compassionate care and support given in David’s time of need – especially the pulmonary team and Dr. Timothy LeSage.

Testimonials

May 24, 2018

Our family wants to thank Mike and the staff of Draeger-Langendorf for their compassion and caring in the death of our mother. They attended to every detail with such professionalism and made this difficult time so much easier by unburdening us of all that needs to be done with the arrangements. We all felt that there was nothing more they could have been done. It was perfect. We can now go forward with the memories that we hold in our hearts of mom and know that we provided the best possible service by choosing Draeger-Langendorf.
