A celebration of Butch’s life will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 1 to 4 at the Reef Point Brew House, 2 Christopher Columbus Causeway, Racine. We welcome everyone to come, share the stories and love that Butch shared with everyone he knew. Hawaiian shirts, fishing clothes and ball caps are appropriate attire.

Alan “Butch” Thompson reeled in his final fish on December 6, 2016. He was 60 years old. Butch was a man of many talents: a tool and die maker, grill master and smoker, fisherman, boater and gearhead. When it came to motor sports, Butch was versatile: he was in the pits, on the track, under the hood, and in the seat. Butch was a flight mechanic for the Thunderbird Squad in the Air Force. He was a Vietnam Era Veteran, stationed in Korea. Butch was a constant prankster, and loved tricking people into eating hot and spicy Kimchi!
Butch never met a stranger or forgot a friend. He deeply loved his family and friends, and took care of many people in many ways. Butch was a mentor to people from all walks of life, young and old. A sober man with a wild passion for life and learning, Butch loved to figure things out, on his own, especially! After being laid off at American Motors, he reinvented himself and learned everything to know about computers, motors, boats, fishing, and anything about which he became curious.
In 1980 he married the love of his life, Dana J. Iwon. And; in 1987, Butch and Dana brought their best achievement into the world, their daughter Madeline J. Thompson. In their words, Butch was, “The best husband, best father and best friend.” When it came to friends, Butch always made more deposits than withdrawals, and there was never too much money to spend on a good practical joke!
Butch leaves a legacy of irreverent humor, deep love, good will towards all, hard work, sharp wit, and no BS.
In time, life’s experiences include final goodbyes to our most loved ones, and then the mind’s eye must remember with love in our heart. We all loved Butch so very, very much.
Butch is survived by his wife Dana J. Iwon, daughter Madeline J. Thompson, mother, Marge Thompson, sisters, Deborah A. Edmark and Penney J. Alleman. He is survived by a plethora of nieces, nephews, in-laws, out-laws and way too many fish. His feathered family Punkim, Sassy and Frieda will tweet amongst themselves.
Butch was predeceased by his father Paul Thompson and brother Dave Thompson. Butch was an organ donor.

So many childhood memories of Butch. The teasing never stopped and he took it well when I gave it back. We will miss having you as a neighbor. Love to the family. Rest In Peace and catch the big one!
