Visitation Wednesday evening 5-7 pm in the funeral home and on Thursday from 9-10 am

Racine – Anne Putra (nee: Tajnai) went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 29^th, 2017 at Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha, WI. She was 98 years old. Anne was born to Hungarian immigrants, Joseph and Theresa Tajnai (nee: Chaubey) on January 5^th, 1919 in Racine, WI at their home in Lakeside. She was united in marriage to Peter P. Putra Sr. on July 31^st, 1948. They raised 3 boys in their 51 years of marriage.

Anne is survived by her loving sons, Stanley “Stashu” (Janice) Putra, Peter “Petey” (Diane) Putra Jr., Joseph “Joe” (Lori) Putra; her baby brother Steve Tajnai; her goddaughters, Janis Gayhart and Sue Tajnai; beloved grandchildren, Jessica Putra, John (Jenny) Putra, Sarah (Chris) Schulte, Cristina Putra, Nicole Putra, Justin Putra; and her most favorite people on earth, her great-grandchildren, Colin Schulte, Jillian Schulte and her pride and joy Peter John Matthew Putra, in addition to many nieces, nephews and loved ones. Anne was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her siblings, Joe Tajnai, Margaret Balog and Julie Conway, and her best friend Betty Olson as well as many cherished others.

Anne grew up in Racine the eldest of five children. She enjoyed Hungarian dancing in her youth (but not with boys shorter than her) as well as going to the show and carnival with her sisters and cooking along with her mother for the St. Lucy’s Parish Festival in the 30’s. Anne worked on a farm picking onions for 10₵ a day during the depression.  She then worked as a housekeeper for the Fabish family. Her jobs after that were at Western Coil, Hamilton Beach Co., Eisendrath Tannery and Gallo Manufacturing, retiring at the age of 62.  After a 9 year courtship she married the love of her life, Peter Putra. Anne loved knitting and baking Hungarian desserts such as kolaches, which were like none other. Anne and Peter loved going Up North to their cabin they built together in Presque Isle, WI. They both loved fishing, gardening, going to mass and canning. What Anne loved most of all was to spend time with her family, especially in her latter years. She looked forward to her youngest son Joe’s visits at her assisted living home where he would come and cook out with all of the residents, watch shows, talk about the old days and gossip with Anne several times a week.

Anne’s family would like to thank Artisan Assisted Living in Racine for their wonderful, compassionate care of her for the past 2 ½ years.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, July 5^th from 5-7 pm and Thursday, July 6th from 9-10 am with service to follow at 10 am at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery – Kinzie Avenue.
