Mount Pleasant – Alvin P. O’Brien, 75, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, September 21, 2017.

Al was the sixth of seven sons, born in 1941, to the late Ray and Violet (Nee: Fahrenkrug) O’Brien.  He was raised on a farm in the Rice Lake area, moving with the family to Shawano and then in the late 1950’s, to the Greenwood area where Al attended high school and met Angeline Tolaney.  After graduating, Angie moved down to Milwaukee and Al followed shortly thereafter. They moved to Racine after marrying on October 26, 1963, in Willard, Wisconsin.  From this union, two wonderful children were born.  Angie preceded Al in death on October 2, 2010.

Al was employed at Belle City Malleable Foundry as well as part owner of Douglas Sinclair filling station through early/mid-1960’s. In 1967, they bought the tire business which became O’Brien Tire Sales. On July 1, 2017, Al and his son, Mark, celebrated 50 years in business. Al loved to play softball, volleyball, basketball and enjoyed bowling, golfing and watching NASCAR races.  O’Brien Tire sponsored many softball and bowling teams over the years.  Al was a fantastic storyteller and his family loved to hear him tell stories about his childhood.  He had completely rebuilt a 1968 Pontiac Firebird convertible and you could find him tooling around town in that beautiful masterpiece most every weekend or loaning it out to friends or family for a wedding or prom.

Al leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Debbie (Joe) Crenshaw; son, Mark O’Brien; granddaughters, Madison Crenshaw, Tori Crenshaw; brothers, Dale (Barbara) O’Brien, Roger (Joanne) O’Brien; double-cousins, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends too numerous to mention.  Al was loved by his family and will be missed tremendously.

In addition to his parents and wife, Al is preceded in death by his brothers, Dewayne O’Brien, Allen O’Brien, Victor Smith, and Jerry O’Brien.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, 4:00pm until 7:00pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road.  A celebration of Al’s life will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 28, 2017, 12:30pm.  Visitation on Thursday will be from 11:30am until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Al was a wonderful man. Talking to him about cars was something he and I did quite often before and after bowling and something I really enjoyed. Al was a true GEM who will be sorely missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Very Sorry for your Family’s Loss,

    Debbie & Mark

My deepest sympathy goes out to the both of you and the rest of your families. Al was a real good friend. We shared lots of good conversations and times together. I will definitely miss him. Bowling will never be the same without him. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make the funeral as I am vacationing in Texas. I’m sure he is happier now that he is with Angie again.
