Mt. Pleasant – Karen Carla Hathaway, 56, was surrounded by the love of her family when she passed away at Ascension All Saints Hospital on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. She was born in Racine on May 22, 1961, daughter of the late Walter and Mary Ellen (nee: Chirigotis) Mazek.  Karen graduated in 1979 from Park High School; and from the Dental Assistant program at Gateway Technical Institute in Kenosha. She was married in Holy Trinity Catholic church to Jason Patrick Hathaway on August 8, 1981.

Karen was a loving wife and devoted mother to her three boys. She enjoyed boating, gardening, and caring for her pet cats and dogs. She was a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church.

Karen is survived by her husband Jason; their sons Roy Christopher Hathaway,  Lee Taylor Hathaway,  and Cody Adam (Jessica Wargo) Hathaway all of Racine; grandchildren Liam Gregory and Brayden Lee; sisters Sandra (Rell) Barrett of Somers, Patricia (Douglas) Kuiper of Waunakee, Terri (Daniel) Estep of Longwood, Florida, and her twin Susan (James) Tauschek of Racine; sister-in-law Constance Lea Hansche of Mt. Pleasant; brother-in-law James Hathaway of DeLeon Springs, Florida; as well as many other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law Jerry Hansche; nephew Rell Walter Barrett; and her father and mother-in-law Leland and Esther Hathaway.

Funeral services will be held St. Lucy’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. Public visitation will begin at 10 a.m., and continue until the start of the funeral mass at 11a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia. Please consider donations in her memory to the Racine Campus of the Wisconsin Humane Society.
