RACINE – David Owen Evans, 60, passed away peacefully at his home on April 8, 2018.

David was born in Berlin, Wis. on June 26, 1957 to Owen P. and Phyllis M. (nee: Melby) Evans. He moved to Racine with his family in 1970.

A 1976 graduate of Washington Park High School, David immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country for nearly nine years, four of which in Korea. He was also employed by Racine Unified School District for 20 years prior to his retirement in 2014.

David loved his family most of all. He always enjoyed gathering for sporting events, vacations in the Northwoods and cookouts in the backyard. He will be forever remembered for the sparkle in his eyes and his compassion for others. David’s gentle spirit will be greatly missed.

David was preceded in death by his father, Owen. He is survived by his mother Phyllis; sister Susan Evans and brother John (Leanne) Evans, all of Racine; nephews Jacob (Kayla) Evans and Ian (fiancée Andrea Gonzales) Evans and niece Anna (Alexander Hahn) Evans; grand-nephew Owen Pierce Evans II; daughter Christina; grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home for a visitation on Saturday (A WEEK FROM THIS SATURDAY), April 21, 2018 from noon-1 p.m., followed by a service with military honors in celebration of David’s life. Memorials suggested to a charity of your choice.

My deepest sympathies and condolences. David will be missed greatly by every person that had the chance to get to know him. He was sweet, lighthearted, gentle and always fun. I know I already miss his smiling face and eyes, always wanting to get a laugh out of whomever he was talking to, he had a great sense of humor. May happy memories fill your heart when you think of him.

My most sincere condolences to all of the Evans family in the death of Dave. I especially send my thoughts and prayers to Dave’s sister, Sue, with whom I taught at Jerstad Middle School. When a family member dies, it effects all family members and each of you deal with your loss in your own way. Support each other during these difficult days.

We were so sad to hear of Dave’s passing and send our love and prayers for his family. As neighbors when he was growing up our kids and the Evans were best friends and Dave was always smiling. A few weeks ago had a wonderful visit with him remembering all of the fun times in Dubuque. Ia. Rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers to Dave’s mom and sister. I worked with Dave at McKinley Middle School for a number of years. He was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. I will always remember how he kept me in good supply of my favorite candy, until my dentist became alarmed. Even then, he still slipped me a pack every once in a while. I cannot pass that candy in the store without thinking of Dave. I am sorry for your loss, I’m sure he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
