Mary Elizabeth Williams, 88, was in the company of loved ones when she passed away at home on Friday, April 13, 2018. She was born in Smokey Hollow (Tallahassee) Florida on September 17, 1929, daughter of the late David and Mary Crumbie. On June 14, 1947 she was united in marriage to Rev. Ralph W. Williams. In 1955, Ralph and Mary moved to Racine after Rev. Williams was called to minister at Wayman A.M.E Church. Mary was an active and faithful member there for over 25 years, and then accompanied her husband to Gregg Chapel C.M.E Church where he accepted his pastoral appointment.

Mary was a proud Pastor’s wife, mother, grandmother, and First Lady of the Church. She devoted her life to caring for her family, teaching children to read, and mentoring young people in the community. Her presence will be missed by all who knew her.

Mary is survived by her daughters: Jacquelyn Strozierbey of Milwaukee, Carolyn Williams of San Leandro, CA, Sandra (Phillip) Hill of Franksville, WI , and Deborah Lloyd of Racine, WI; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter; as well as other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters, and great-grandson Jedidiah Lloyd.

Homegoing services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Wayman AME Church, 424 N. Memorial Dr., Racine,WI 53403 at 12 noon with Rev. David R. Green officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may visit with the family in the church from 10am – 12pm.

Our family extends special thanks to Grace Hospice; All Saints Cancer Center; Dr. Young Choi, and his loving Nurse Debbie, R.N, and their staff for the kind and comforting care provided to our dear mother.

To my family. There is so much I can say about my second mother. I love her so much. I remember her banana pudding, grits, Dinah Shore, Carol Burnett, basketball games, watering the grass and spraying us with the hose (on purpose), eating fresh fruit from Tallahassee, going to Wayman, listening to Jackie, Carolyn, Debbie, Sharon, Zeetee and the twins rehearse while we stood under the window and listened. I remember that Mrs. Williams would accept collect calls from Marilyn and I when we were in college in Iowa. I remember that Mr. Williams would pick us up from the bus station if mama or daddy couldn’t get us. We grew up together in the most loving neighborhood with the most loving people. I will never forget Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Works, Mrs. Sanders and my mother playing old fashion basketball in Mrs. Sanders’ backyard. We even had our own hairstylist, Mrs. Robinson. Oh yeah, and don’t forget Peanut, Rusty and Sonnie’s black, shaggy dog. I love you all. Mrs. Williams will definitely be missed, but Never forgotten.

Testimonials

February 20, 2019

Mike and his team did a fabulous job with the memorial service for our Mom. It was perfect and he made the process easy for me to go through during such a difficult time. She had chosen theĀ funeral homeĀ before hand, and she made the right choice. The service was beautiful, simple, and sweet. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
