I met Bill some 40-plus years ago at OMC in Waukegan, IL, he was there to provide tooling support; I was doing special projects, and CNC programming. Bill was a warm, friendly, superbly knowledgeable tooling guy, a kind person with a positive outlook on life and a fundamental faith in humanity. He could always put you at ease with his stories. Some I had heard more than a dozen times, but I never got tired of hearing.

Over these many years we became remarkably close friends who shared work experiences, personal issues, dreams and aspirations, successes and failures, silly things that happened in our lives, and a few beers and Tequila shots, as well.

Bill was always there to lend a helping hand, even for total strangers, he was always reaching out to help others. He practiced his humanity, his positive outlook on life, his kindness toward people and their frailties. Indeed, the world is a much colder place without him.

I keep fond memories of Bill from my childhood , him taking me fishing and helping me look at life in a different way . I had the chance to talk to him a few years back and was impressed that he had not changed . He still had that special light around him . I am saddened by his passing and the world will be a lesser place without him . Many thanks to him and his family for the time we spent together .

The purpose of life is not to be happy.
It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make a difference in the lives of other’s.

Billy was a true friend to us and many others while he was in college at UW-Oshkosh and throughout life. He brought friendship, love, and joy to our lives as a roommate and special friend. He was everything you could ask for in a friend. We are deeply saddened and feel a great loss.

Roe: Billy and I shared a deep love of music. Especially groups like Pure Prairie League, Poco, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Many times, we would enjoy singing out loud to the music. Favorite songs were Aimee (Pure Prairie League), Good Feelin’ to Know (Poco), and the Tennessee Stud (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band). Sometimes we would add a little air guitar, air banjo, or air fiddle for the pure fun and joy of it.

Bill also expanded our horizons of fine dining. 😊 Who knew one could eat Spam and Velveeta cheese so many different ways! He taught us how to relish a good, gourmet fried egg sandwich-on toast with lots of ketchup.

Several trips to Chicago are special memories. As friends, we went to see the sights and enjoy some fine dining. A fusion Latin restaurant was a wonderous celebration of food, music, and friendship.

The Wier family cottage will always be remembered as a place of joy and friendship. Fishing, boating, and campfires were special times.

Maureen and the Wier family hold a special place in our hearts. Our sincere best wishes go to Maureen and the Weir family. We send our love to all of you.
