Linda Lue Kimmons came into the world fighting at only 3 pounds 5 ounces on October 1, 1950 in New Albany, Mississippi to Augusta Hill and Iomia Kimmons. She went to her next stage of life with the same strength on Sunday, October 4, 2020.

Linda possessed just the right amount of spirit, grit, strength and awareness of her worth, to navigate through a world of segregation in the 1950’s and 1960’s in Mississippi. She was never one to mince words or back down when faced with a challenge. Linda was active in high school activities; She turned the energy of the day into good energy to champion and help others, including acting as big sister to her two younger cousins in the home. To this end, Linda first pursued a degree in nursing before moving to Racine, Wisconsin; Thereby, she became the first in a legacy of the Pegues-Kimmons family to attend college. She completed her nursing education at Gateway Technical College in Racine, Wisconsin. She went on to serve as a nurse in many arenas, providing medical care to a range of ages from young children to mature adults. Even during the moments of her own declining health, her thoughts were often on how she could continue to use her nursing skills to help others.

Family was one source of strength for Linda. She relocated to Wisconsin during her early twenties, but she would drive many miles back to Mississippi almost every year to visit with her maternal aunts, uncles, and cousins for the summer and holiday seasons. Linda’s admiration, motivation and loving devotion was to her only child, Maquon Kimmons, their relationship was especially powerful for her.

Linda is preceded in death by her mother Iomia Kimmons; her father Augusta Hill and her grandmother Elizabeth Pegues-Kimmons. Linda will join her pride and joy, her son Maquon Kimmons; her sisters Mernia Hill and Djuna Hill; brother Melvin Foots; her tender hearted aunt and uncle Inez and Harvester Kimmons, as well as ten other aunts and uncles who were always there for her during her early years in Mississippi.

Linda leaves as the keepers of her memories, her lovely granddaughter, Isha Kimmons; her supportive siblings Don Hill, Lesia (Samuel) Hill-Driver and Catrina Hill; two aunts, Maxine Crim and Eloise Richards of Aurora, Illinois; her uncle Harry Kimmons of Leakesville, MS; two special cousins Mary Kimmons-Smith of New Albany, MS and Sophia Kimmons-Ballard of Detroit, Michigan; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other loving family members on both sides of her family.

A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 4:00pm in the Chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Rd., Racine, WI.  Visitation will be in the Chapel from 3:00pm until the time of service.  Interment will be on Monday, October 12, 2020 in Graceland Cemetery. What a wonderful friend you’ve been to me. we have laughed, talked, walked down Watson and Baker Street until one of the neighbor would say aren’t you young ladies tired yet? We have cried, walked some more, made secret codes. But most importantly we confessed, We believed in God. We were going to be baptized, you questioned the depth of the water, I tried to reassure you it was gonna be ok, your reply was it’s easy for you to say you are tall. but “WE WERE BAPTIZED” Praise the Lord . yes I’m sad, but God has allowed us to have an awesome friendship and a lifetime of memories. So to Linda’s Family you are in my prayers. love you Sophia, and Ronnie too (yeah I know) thank you Sharon. Your New Albany, Mississippi friend Nora Wade Hill to “God be the Glory”..

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Dear Gary, You and your staff are really special people. I and my family felt so blessed that all of the funeral arrangements were in your thorough and caring hands. One helpful meeting and then you took care of all the arrangements – and we knew we need not worry about one thing.
