Service Details

A funeral service for Marcel will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2020, 6:00pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road. Visitation will be from 3:00pm until the time of the funeral service. Burial will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery on a later date.

Marcel Bi Seye Vanié , 65, passed away on Saturday, November 7th, 2020. He was born in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) on December 20th, 1954, son of the late Kouaple Bi and Dja Lou (Née: Botty) Vanié.

Marcel arrived to the United States in search of better opportunities and proudly served in the United States Army. He retired as a Sergeant First Class after 26 years of loyal service. He also attained a masters degree in transportation logistics.

Marcel had a very close relationship with the word of God and never ceased to immerse himself in the Holy Bible. He constantly shared his experience and hungered to know more about the teachings of the holy Spirit. Marcel believed education and continual learning was essential to life. With that in mind, he never stopped acquiring new knowledge on various topics of interest. He was also very attached to the African roots of his upbringing from which he believed the values were unmatched. Marcel loved his grandchildren and never missed the opportunity to strengthen his bond with them. He loved technology, and always filled his space with the latest gadgets, tools, and books.

Marcel is survived by his wife, Rachel Harleston of Racine. His children; Arnaud Vanié , David Vanié , James Vanié , Floriane Vanié , Rosemonde Harleston, Stephanie Harleston, and Larry Harleston.

His grandchildren include Davina Vanié , Evangelina Vanié, Abiguaelle Vanié , Nehemiah Vanié, Nesiah Vanié , Neriah Vanié , Jhaiden Vanié , Exodus Vanié , and Kymani Vanié . He had many siblings, and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

In addition to his parents, Marcel is preceded in death by 37 brothers and sisters of which he is the last member.

    Marcel was a good friend and an active member of Friend’s of Africa in Wisconsin, Inc. He always made himself available to assist his fellow human beings. He will be missed.
