Marylyn K. Murphy, 88, received the promise of eternal life on August 31, 2024 and has joined her loving husband, Darrell who passed away in November 2020.  Marylyn was born and raised in Racine, daughter of Emil and Enola Kottal (Née: Stipe).

Marylyn was united in marriage at Racine Bible to the love of her life, Darrell Murphy on December 26, 1959 and celebrated over 60 years with Christian loving hearts where they were both members for many years before becoming members of Calvary Memorial.

Marylyn graduated from Horlick High, worked at Modine and the Granada Theater before attaining her Beautician license.  She loved doing hair and was a beautician for many years before retiring and joining Mary Kay.  She joined Mary Kay to make women feel special and better about themselves.  She had lots of fun doing it and meeting new people.

Marylyn loved people and shared her love with everyone.  She had such a big heart and generous spirit. Marylyn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in law, aunt, niece, cousin and a friend.

Marylyn is survived by her 4 children, Michael (Karen) Murphy, Shawn Murphy, Michele Pierantoni, Kristie (Mike) Usa, 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; 5 siblings, Janet Nimm , Early Dawn (Don) Kottal , Kathleen Sheehan, Patricia (Julian) Mireles , and Rosanne (Jim) Repinski, sister-in-law, Karen Nelson; and many special nieces, nephews and other relatives too numerous to mention.

Marylyn is preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, her parents, Emil and Enola Kottal, mother and father-in law, Myrtle and Norbert Murphy, brother-in-law Richard Nelson, brother-in-law Patrick Sheehan, cousin Peter Kottal, nephews, Cliff Kittel, Peter and Jim Nelson and other good friends and neighbors.

Marylyn was a very happy and beautiful person, she was always smiling and bringing laughter and joy to people. She loved the lord with all her heart and always had love to share.  She gave the best hugs and was always there when you needed her.   She enjoyed reading and listening to Billy Graham, she loved her children and grandchildren more than anything.  Not only did she enjoy Mary Kay, but she loved flower gardening and always had the most beautiful flower gardens around.   She also enjoyed cooking and Christmas was her favorite time of the year.  Her Christmas tree and decorations during Christmas will always be remembered with the family.

Marylyn managed several years with Dementia and was cared for by many loving people including her husband before he passed, son, Michael, daughter, Kristie, grandson, Daniel, Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care (Accent Care), St. Croix Hospice and Oakridge Nursing Facility

Marilyn and I rode our roller skates (that fastened on our shoes and were held there using a key) when she lived on Charles Street and I lived on Carter Street. Going all away around the block was a big deal back then. I’ve lost track of her since those tender years of youth, until I saw her obituary and name and beautiful smile. She was a dear sweet friend so long ago.

There is not enough words to sum up how wonderful my grandmother was a pure soul. She always had a way of making new friends no matter where we went. She could be at Piggly Wiggly’s for a few items and come out with a new friend that would spend time listening and sharing stories with. She really let her light shine and nothing could get her down. One of my other fond memories of her is when we would have a tea party and get all dressed up. I loved how she made me feel so special.
I am especially glad you got to meet Gerard, my husband and he got to see how wonderful you are! Gummy Grandma you will be missed! I know you are with your love of your life, Grandpa in heaven and feeling no more pain. Much love! 💜

Testimonials

May 25, 2021

My family wants to thank you and your team for all that you did to walk along side us in my mom’s death and celebration of life. You all did an amazing job with such care, concern of details, and sensitivity to our family. I know my moms body was treated respectfully in your care and that meant the world to us to have confidence in that.
