Michael L. DeRango

Mar 1, 1970 – Aug 13, 2025

Service Details

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 10 A.M. at St Sebastian Catholic Church, 3126 95th St. Sturtevant.  A visitation for Michael’s family and friends will take place on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Rd, Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin.  The Nightengale Tribute will take place on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.  Mike will be laid to rest alongside his beloved sister, Theresa, in Arbor Vitae, WI.

Michael Lee DeRango, age 55, of Trevor, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday August 13, 2025 from a reaction to a wasp sting.

Michael was born in Racine, WI on March 1, 1970, son of Kenneth and Carol (nee:McKloskey) DeRango.  Mike attended St John Nepomuk and St Sebastian Grade Schools and Case High School.  Mike attended Gateway Technical College earning degrees in Horticulture (1997) and in Nursing (2008). After graduation, Mike began his nursing career at St. Catherine’s (Froedtert South) in Kenosha, working in their Ambulatory Surgery Center.  For one year, Mike worked in the Oncology Department and then transferred back to the Ambulatory Surgery Center.  In 2024, Mike began work in the Podiatry Clinic with Dr. Montemurro. Mike was well loved and respected by both patients and fellow staff.

When not working, Mike loved spending time with his son, Jack, and partner Mickey, especially when up north at his lake house in Tomahawk on Lake Somo or at his mom’s cottage in Arbor Vitae. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time in his vegetable and flower gardens using his horticultural degree skills. Mike was also an excellent cook and grill master serving many great meals to family and friends.  Mike was a pet parent to many dogs over the years, loving them all very much! His musical interests were varied with his favorite performers being the Carpenters. He loved their music and played their songs as often as we would let him, from a very early age on.

Mike is survived by his Life Partner, Mickey Johnson; his son, Jack McKloskey; his parents, Kenneth L. DeRango and Carol A. Wright; his siblings, Daniel (Deanna) Wright and Robert Wright; his previous spouse, Anne Marie Malsack Costabile, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, and his dog, Stella.

He was preceded in death by his sister and best friend, Theresa Ann Nelson; his step-sister Julie Ann Wright, his grandparents Dorothy and Robert McKloskey and Vera and Albert DeRango, as well as his nephew, Josh Nelson and much-loved Uncle John (Aunt Celeste) and Aunt Mary.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Trevor Fire and Rescue Department and for the outpouring of love and concern from family, friends and co-workers.

Testimonials

The Brehm and Kapellusch Families

My family and I would like to thank you and your staff for making our father’s funeral a beautiful celebration of his life. So many people commented that it was the best funeral they had ever attended! We can’t say enough about Mark Langendorf’s professionalism, his attention to detail, and ensuring that my father’s funeral went smoothly from start to finish. After the funeral, he was always available for any questions and concerns my mother had. He handled all post-funeral details. Our dad would be very happy to know it went so well.Thank you so much, Mark.
