Alexander "Alex" Palm

Aug 30, 1932 – Sep 27, 2006

Racine- Alexander Palm, 74, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 from pulmonary complications with recent heart surgery. Alex was born in Dallas, Texas on August 30, 1932. Shortly after, he moved to Warren, MN where he was raised by his beloved grandmother, Ellen Palm. Al served our Country with the United States Army during the Korean War. He became a permanent Racine resident as a young adult. On September 1, 1962 he was united in marriage to Lois J. Ahles in St. Lucy Catholic Church. Alex was a passionate and dedicated member of St. Lucy’s, where he had served as an altar assistant, 4:00 pm Mass usher, and was a tireless annual festival volunteer. Proud of his faith, he actively participated in the monthly Catholic Men’s organization. Alex was employed by Racine County Public Works, working mostly on Durand Ave. road maintenance for 29 years, retiring in 1994. Soon after his retirement, never being able to sit still, Al began his second career with the Bank of Elmwood, working up until his first hospital visit on August 14, 2006. Outside his devotion to his wife, church and employers, Al loved being in the surroundings of his entire family, especially his cherished nieces and nephews. Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Lois; sister, Jean Wells; father-in-law, Frank Ahles; aunt, Rubye Dallum; brother-in-law, Joseph Ahles; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Palm and Renate Palm; nieces and nephews, Desiree Verdiguel, Gordon Ahles, Wallace Robbins, Kurt Simonsen and Kelly (Lenny) Robbins. Al is further survived by great-nieces and nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends. Alex was preceded in death by his mother, Leah Palm; grandmother, Ellen Palm; brothers, Leland and Jack (Carolyn) Palm; mother-in-law, Pearl Ahles; aunt, Margaret (Dick) Meekma; sister-in-law, Sandra Ahles; niece, Kim Robbins; nephew, Robert Simonsen; and cousin, Gary Knudson. Funeral services for Alex will be held in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 12 – 2 pm. Private interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested. A special note of thanks to wonderful nurses and staffs at All Saints ICU, Radiology, Respiratory and Cardiac Depts.; to Dr. Stone, Dr. Bader and Dr. Bartlett; to the hospital clergy and Fr. Mark Jones of St. Lucy’s for the incredible care and support all of you gave Alex during the past month. God bless all of you!

Testimonials

December 18, 2024

Words cannot even begin to express the tremendous gratitude our family has for a team like the one at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home & Crematory. Thank you for the gentle lovely care over our mother Delia (Rosa) Balderas. Never having had a direct experience with a funeral home to this extent we didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t have a clue that they would step right in and have the most comforting team surrounding us that thought of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING for anyone in our position. It was very evident from the first discussion on the phone that they were already well prepared to handle every little detail for us that we weren’t even aware would be required. Mark and his team truly eased so much of the unknown worries right out of our path, and left room for us to just focus on the small personal details we wanted for our mom. It was nice to know that all cost involved was in black and white on their site as well as on paper at our first meeting. Leaving no room for question or doubt what so ever with any fee involved. It was truly a blessing to have everything written out so well and simplified with various price range options in a time that we needed crystal clear direction. Its been beautiful to see that their care and service didn’t stop after our mom’s service came to an end. They continue to be in communication with immediate responses as questions arise along the way. God bless Mark, and the entire compassionate team, to be around to guide many many more for generations to come through life’s most difficult times. You are all truly amazing.
