Racine – Alexander Daniel Jurkiewicz, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

Proud of his heritage, Alex was born in Poland on October 6, 1930 to the late Stanley and Pauline (nee: Skibicka) Jurkiewicz. He faithfully served our country with the United States Army in the Korean War from 1951-53. On February 23, 1952 he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Dorothy Agnes (nee: Ross), who preceded him in death on March 7, 1997.

Alex was a well-respected machinist at Twin Disc for over 35 years, retiring in 1992. Devoted to his Catholic faith, he was a longtime member of St. Edward Catholic Church and, currently, a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church. He was a member of the Twin Disc 20 Year Club and of Root River Restoration. A jack of all trades, Alex could do just about everything – including woodworking, carpentry, electrical and cement….just to name a few. As a sports fan, He was an avid fisherman – having made his own lures; played volleyball and softball; and enjoyed watching the Packers and listening to the Brewers on his transistor radio while grilling out.

Surviving are his children, Marie (Dennis) Weeks, Daniel (Jeanne) Jurkiewicz, Ken (Deborah) Jurkiewicz and Diane (Gene) Aiello; grandchildren, Kelly DaPra, Chrissy (Jake) VanDerGeest, Kathryn (Josh) James, Marc Jurkiewicz, Jeremy (Sarah) Jurkiewicz, Kathleen “Katie” Jurkiewicz, Emily Aiello and Michael Aiello; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Jordy DaPra; Brayden and Logan VanDerGeest; Sam and Abby James; and Dylan Jurkiewicz; sisters, Helen Scuderi and Barbara (Art) Rapkine; sister-in-laws, Virginia Nelson, Kay Ross, Ellen Ross, and Marilyn Ross, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Alex was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley Jurkiewicz, Mike (Vera) James and Vince (Helen) Jurkiewicz; and brothers-in-laws, Michael Scuderi, Joe Nelson, Will Ross, Ken Ross, Vernon Ross and Gordon Ross and sister in law Charlotte Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 5:30 pm at Saint Lucy Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue, with Rev. Javier Guativa officiating. A memorial dinner will follow. Visitation will be in the church on Friday from 4:30 – 5:30 pm. Private entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorials to Hospice Alliance or Harmony Club have been suggested.

A special note of thanks to Hospice Alliance (especially Pat, Jackie and Diane) for the compassionate care and support given in Alex’s time of need.
