Alice Elizabeth Hamers

Jul 6, 1917 – Sep 20, 2010

Mrs. Alice E. Hamers, 93, died peacefully at her residence on Monday, September 20, 2010.

She was born in Wausau on July 6, 1917 to the late Carl and Nell (nee: Callahan) Bremer.  On October 14, 1939, she married Gilbert F. Hamers.  Together, they moved to Racine in 1950.  He preceded her in death on May 22, 1999.

Mrs. Hamers worked at American Motors for over 25 years, retiring in 1976.   Prior to her illness she enjoyed participating in the Humble Park and Atonement Lutheran Church Senior Centers.  Mrs. Hamers also loved the outdoors, especially when she was working in her garden. She was happiest however when in the surroundings of her family.

Her survivors include her children, Ronald (Edie) Hamers of Lake Tomahawk, Roger (Margaret) Hamers and Gail Kobs (formerly of Hawaii) both of Racine; her grandchildren, Cindy (Dennis) Thompson, Jean (Dick) Horvath, Karen (Mike) Bocheck, Jeff (Margie) Hamers, Sheila Alesna and Lisa Kobs; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Gertrude) Bremer of Wausau, Raymond (Georgia) Bremer of Fort Bragg, CA; brother-in-law, Pete Hamers of Pittsville, WI; as well as numerous dear nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hamers was also preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Jean and sister, Olive Drumn.

Family and friends are invited to meet at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. for the celebration of her life and funeral service with Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen officiating.  Her interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.  There will be a visitation in the funeral home on Friday morning from 10-11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the Salvation Army.
