Angela Joy Halverson

Nov 13, 1972 – Dec 1, 2013

~~     Angela came into this world with many health problems, but God had a special mission for her. She overcame life-and-death situations over and over again in her 41 years here on Earth. Finally, on Sunday, December 1, 2013, God called her Home with Him.
Angie was born in Racine on November 13, 1972, the daughter of David and Edith (nee: Van Alstine) Halverson. She was a 1990 graduate of Washington Park High School. After graduation she worked as a nanny, and in her spare time she volunteered at a school for the deaf, learning and teaching sign language. Her heart’s desire was to stand for those who could not stand for themselves. She had been employed by Careers Industries, here in Racine, for over 11 years, where she used her signing skills. She went on to manage a group home of people with developmental disabilities. They became like her own family. When the hours became too much for her, she became a driver for Medix Ambulance, for those who needed transportation. After an illness setback, Angie returned to Careers Industries until she could not work at all. Her entire life was centered on serving others. Angie was a dedicated member of Calvary Memorial Church. Her family and friends will miss her, her great sense of humor, and skill of teaching.
Left to go on without her are her parents David and Edith Halverson; sisters Leayn (Paul) Tabili and Debra (Charles) Boedecker; niece Bailey Shantry; and nephews Max Shantry and James Boedecker. Her many friends and extended family will also miss her very much. Angie was preceded in death by her grandparents Clayton and Elsie Halverson and Andrew and Leola VanAlstine; uncle John VanAlstine, and cousins Gary, Adam, and Joey VanAlstine.
A memorial service celebrating her extraordinary life will take place at Calvary Memorial Church, 4101 Washington Ave., at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7th, with Rev. Nathan James officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. For those who wish, the family has directed memorials to Calvary Memorial Church or Careers Industries.
The family extends their love and gratitude to Drs. Gallon, Thomas, DeCheck, Earing, and Roth, their staffs, and the marvelous staff of Wheaton Franciscan Hospice and Wheaton Franciscan Hospital-All Saints for the very special care given Angie.

I’ve already caught myself wanting to call you to share a piece of my life only to abruptly remember that you are more than just a phone call away now. Angie, I love and miss you and am looking forward to the day we will be reunited in God’s perfect place. You were a dear friend to many and I was lucky to be one of those who could call you confidant. Rest in peace.
