Anna Elizabeth Ralis, 94, passed away in the Becker-Shoop Center on Saturday, May 5, 2007. She was born in Racine on April 8, 1913, the daughter of the late John and Rose (nee: Jasakaitus) Gleebs.
Before she was married, Anna worked at the Hamilton Beach Company. On May 5, 1945, Anna married Bronislaw Joseph Ralis in Racine. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1998. Perhaps she met up with him again when she died on their 62nd Wedding Anniversary.
Anna loved being a homemaker with particular interests in cooking, baking, sewing and knitting. Many have fond memories of her tasty Lithuanian dishes and desserts, especially the kapalukes. The homemade doughnuts were always a special treat. She always welcomed friends, neighbors, and relatives into her home for all this good food as well as interesting conversation.
Many of her family and friends still enjoy the afghans that she lovingly handmade in a variety of patterns. She collected many antiques over the years, with an interest in old glassware and dolls. She played the piano when the mood struck her, and she loved music and dancing. She enjoyed riding her bicycle, going to the grocery stores, estate sales, and rummage sales. She actively rode her bicycle up into her early 80’s. Anna felt passionate about her personal philosophy and was strong willed all of her life, even through her last battle with the progressive declines of dementia. Anna was devoted to her family and got enormous pleasure in following the events and growth of their lives. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her children, Rosemary (Theodore) Zukewich Jr., and James (Joyce) Ralis; granddaughters, Melissa Zukewich and Jennifer (John) Huber all of Racine; sisters, Adele (Charles) Rimkus of California, Barbara (Victor) Melby of Racine, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, her brother, John Glebs and sister, Rose Van Dyke preceded her in death. A private funeral service and burial was held in West Lawn Memorial Park.
The family wishes to express a special thank you to the entire staff of the Becker-Shoop Center for their loving and compassionate care for Anna.
