Racine – Betty Jane (nee: Hay) Hansen, age 96, passed away peacefully at Ascension-All Saints Hospital on Thursday, November 2, 2017.

Betty was born in Racine on June 29, 1921 to the late Cyril and Sigrid (nee: Nelson) Hay. She was a graduate of Washington Park High School. On April 11, 1942 Betty was united in marriage with Alvin “Al” Roy Hansen, who preceded her in death on March 8, 1987.

Betty served our community as an educator – having taught at Yorkville and Raymond Schools. Among her interests, she enjoyed painting chinaware, watching old classic television and was an Indian Motorcycle enthusiast. Above all, she loved spending time with her entire family.

Surviving are her daughter, Carol Adams; son, Bill (Mary) Hansen; grandchildren, Rob Gravitter, Ryan Gravitter, Brian Hansen, Dawn (John) Cottone and Amanda Sheridan; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Ethan Cottone; sister, Sally (Otto) Leudtke; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Tom Adams.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 10:00 am at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:00 – 10:00 am.

A special note of thanks to Betty’s granddaughter, Amanda “Mandy”, for the loving care and support given to Betty Jane for the past couple of years.

Condolences to the Hansen family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your whole family. Psalms 147:3 says God, “heals the broken hearted, and binds up their wounds.” May God bring you comfort and peace.
