Betty Mae Hoefs

Mar 30, 1928 – Sep 21, 2015

Betty Mae Hoefs, 87, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on Monday, September 21, 2015. Betty was born on March 30, 1928 in Corliss (now Sturtevant) to August and Elsie (nee: Koepsell) Sievers. She lived her entire life in the Racine area.

Betty worked for various companies throughout her life, including Oster, Hamilton Beech, Motor Specialty, Goldblatt’s, Thiem, and National Starch Corporation. She retired in 1993. Those who knew Betty know that she was a bighearted, kindhearted, and young-at-hearted person whose presence will be greatly missed by many. Betty enjoyed playing cards and cribbage, baking, sewing and fishing. She had a good sense of adventure and was always up for a trip (especially to a casino!). She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was a devoted friend to many.

She leaves behind to carry on her spirit: her children Irene (Edward) Kuiper of Racine, Mark (Kim) Hoefs of Burlington, and Nancy (Jef) Leisgang of Fort Atkinson; grandchildren Melissa (Brian) Binder, Christopher Kuiper, and Katie Kuiper; Mark Hoefs, Jr., Alexander (Heidi) Hoefs, and Austin Hoefs; and Chance and Gemma Leisgang; great granddaughters Genevieve Binder and soon-to-be-born Lilliana Hoefs; nieces Elsie (Bill) Goulding, Elaine (Stephen) Sherry, and Shari (Chuck) Cribbs; nephew Ron (Dianne) Sievers; and faithful friends, Janet, Lucille, Fran, Retha and Curley, Rex and Terri, and Ron and Joyce; as well as many other dear relatives and friends.. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law August (Mabel) Sievers, sister and brother-in-law Esther (Andrew “Johnny”) Anderson, former husband Melvin A. Hoefs, niece Evelyn Anderson Balthazar, nephew Jerome Sievers, and many other dear relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 10am on Friday, September 25, 2015 with Rev. Manda Stack officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home Thursday evening from 5pm-7pm, and Friday beginning at 9am. Memorials to the American Heart Association have been suggested.

To the staff at Ridgewood, Heartland Hospice, and Community Care, we extend our heartfelt thanks for the patience, kindness, and care you have shown us all.

Mom, you have left this world, but you will be forever in our hearts.
