Memorial Suggestions

In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church stained glass project or Racine Lutheran High School expansion project.

Carl D. Hellenberg, 75, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Detroit, MI, on November 14, 1944, son of the late Clare and Virginia (nee: Siebert) Hellenberg.

On May 29, 1965, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage to Patricia J. Anderson. Carl had been a longtime employee of S.C. Johnson and Son and was blessed with an incredible mechanical aptitude which he used to build machinery for Waxdale and S.C .Johnson and Son plants around the world.  He enjoyed sailing and building things, including his home. Carl taught Sunday School for many years and would hope that in his passing others would be led closer to God. He enjoyed doing yardwork and was known for the straight lines in his lawn. Carl volunteered many hours at the Lutheran High School Thrift Shop and set up the anchor store on Lathrop Avenue. Carl loved being part of his grandchildren’s lives and attended all their athletic and other events.

Surviving are his devoted and loving wife, Patricia; their children, Elisabeth (Brian) Michael, of Mt. Pleasant, Daniel (Francesca Abbate) Hellenberg, of Beloit, Kathleen Davis, of Bayside, WI; four grandchildren, Ryan Michael, Madeline Michael, Henry Davis, and George Davis; brother, Paul (Betsy) Hellenberg, of Dry Ridge, KY; sister, Jean (Richard) Mazza, of Sarasota, FL; mother-in-law, Lorraine Secanky; brother-in-law Barry (Mary Lee) Anderson, all of Racine. He is further survived by his nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John Secanky, and sister-in-law, Kathleen Secanky. The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Riese and a team of caring professionals at Froedtert for the excellent care Carl received.

His funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2065 Geneva St., on Saturday, November 14th at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor David Gehne officiating. There will be no public visitation. You will be able to meet with the family after the service.  In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to the stained glass project at Trinity Lutheran Church or expansion project at Racine Lutheran High School.
