Catherine M. Varju

Jul 7, 1916 – Jul 4, 2007

Catherine M. Varju, 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2007. She was born in Racine on July 7, 1916, the daughter of the late William and Margaret (nee: Manderfeld) Sweeti. Mrs. Varju graduated from Washington Park High School. On November 18, 1939, she married Alex Varju in Holy Name Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2006. Mrs. Varju was a life long member of St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church (formerly Holy Name), the Christian Mothers, St. Mary’s Auxiliary and the Ladies of Columbus. Surviving are her daughters, Margaret Martin of Kenosha and Mary (Patrick) Raven of Milwaukee; grandchildren, Theresa Martin (Mark) Vendetti of Fox River Grove, IL, Patricia Martin (Scott) Schuetz of West Bend, WI, Lawrence (Michelle) Martin of Kenosha, Elizabeth Raven (Christopher) Juern of Colgate, WI, and Thomas Raven of Milwaukee; great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Isabella Vendetti, Matthew and Timothy Schuetz and Ellison and Mary Jane Juern; brothers, George “Mike” (Pat) Sweeti, and Vincent Sweeti, all of Racine, sisters, Mary Ann (John) Blickle of Franksville, Patricia (James) Ruppel of Racine; brother-in-law, Charles Tussler of Sturtevant and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Alex, Mrs. Varju’s 3 brothers and 3 sisters, William Sweeti, Harry Sweeti, James Sweeti, Margaret Sweeti, Georgia Shepherd and Stella Tussler also preceded her in death. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday July 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Richard Catholic Church (15th and Grand Ave.) with Rev. Ronald J. Gramza officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Because of road construction please enter the parking lot from Villa St. Private entombment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum. In her memory, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.

Mark and his team truly eased so much of the unknown worries right out of our path, and left room for us to just focus on the small personal details we wanted for our mom. It was nice to know that all cost involved was in black and white on their site as well as on paper at our first meeting. Leaving no room for question or doubt what so ever with any fee involved. It was truly a blessing to have everything written out so well and simplified with various price range options in a time that we needed crystal clear direction. Its been beautiful to see that their care and service didn’t stop after our mom’s service came to an end. They continue to be in communication with immediate responses as questions arise along the way. God bless Mark, and the entire compassionate team, to be around to guide many many more for generations to come through life’s most difficult times. You are all truly amazing.
