Sturtevant – Charlotte M. Romanowski, 74, received the promise of eternal life on Thursday, March 1, 2018.  She was born in Stephenson, MI, on December 5, 1943, daughter of the late Guy and Grace (née: Homernik) Vandervest.

Charlotte graduated from Cudahy High School in 1962.  On February 19, 1966, Charlotte was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jeffrey A. Romanowski, at St. Frederick’s Church in Cudahy.  Jeff preceded her in death on September 29, 2010.

Charlotte was a long-time member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sturtevant, the city where she and Jeff raised their family. Through the years Charlotte developed many talents. In the early years she worked as a telephone operator at Mountain Bell. She also started a catering business, opened a restaurant at Berrylee Farms and became a caregiver to many of her family and friends.  She had a passion for flowers and gardening, and above all, Charlotte enjoyed being a grandma and doting on her grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed.

Charlotte is survived by her children, Allan (Kelly), Randy (Michelle), Colleen (John) Gorski, Curtis (Rebecca); grandchildren, Annika, Christina, Lily, Jacob, Alisha; great-granddaughter, Leniah; siblings, Gary (Eddie) Vandervest, Steve (Cindy) Vandervest, Sandra (Ron) Geuder; sister-in-law, Linda Block; sister-in-law, Veda Vandervest; Gracie, her beloved Yorkshire Terrier, and other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.

In addition to her parents and husband, Charlotte is preceded in death by her brother, Ray Vandervest; nephew, Marty Vandervest; and niece, Jennifer Geuder.

Visitation will take place on Monday, March 5, 2018, 4:00pm to 7:00pm, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 3126 95th Street, Sturtevant.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at church on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, 11:00 am, with Rev. Javier Guativa officiating.  Visitation on Tuesday will be from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass.  Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to Heartland Hospice for the care given to Charlotte during this difficult time.

Our sincerest sympathy to Charlotte’s family. She was a decent, honest, kind
and hardworking lady that, like Jeff, once you new them, they were your friends.
    They now are reunited forever.
