Jun 17, 1926 – May 28, 2008

Union Grove – Cornell “Corny” John Steinhoff, 81, passed away at Boland Hall of the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove on Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Cornell was born in Racine on June 17, 1926 to Cornell T. and Anna (nee: Drott) Steinhoff. He faithfully served our Country with the United States Navy in WWII. Cornell owned and operated the Astro Deli & Nut Shop where he made the infamous “Moon Corn” prior to his retirement. In 1979, he retired to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas on Lake DeSoto. There, he enjoyed boating, swimming, home improvement projects and being a member of the local Lions Club. He came back to Racine in 1987. Above all, Corny was a great conversationalist who just loved to talk with family and friends and to keep them laughing. Surviving are his children Connie (Toby) Masterman, Rory Steinhoff, Cory Steinhoff, Mary Beth Steinhoff, Tommy Steinhoff, Ruth Silvers, Fran (Willy) Gold and Pat (Karen) Billips; former wife, Emma Steinhoff; grandchildren, Maxwell Masterman; Rhiannon and Kenzie Parvin; T.J. and Danny Steinhoff; Paul “Joey” Billips; and Carly Jean and Greg Billips; brother, Clem (Pat) Steinhoff; sisters, Julia Seis, Rosemary Locanski, and Dolores (Gerry) Gorton; sisters-in-law, Peggy and Joan Steinhoff; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. In addition to his parents, Corny was preceded in death by brothers, Duaine and Leroy Steinhoff; sisters, Lola Jean and Senola Steinhoff; and brothers-in-law, Frank Seis and Karl Locanski. In accordance with Cornell’s wishes, cremation will take place. Relatives and friends are invited to the chapel of S. Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 21731 Spring Street, on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 11:00 am for committal services with military honors. A memorial gathering will take place in the funeral home this Saturday, May 31st, from 3-6 pm. In memory of Corny, memorials to Boland Hall of Wisconsin Veterans Home, in honor of the fabulous care they provided, has been suggested.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Dear Bob,
I just wanted to thank you again for all your help and everything you did for my grandfather’s funeral. Looking back on it, I think Gramps would have been so proud of how everything turned out and it would not have been possible without your help. Your staff is amazing and has allowed us the grieve without worrying about the little details of everything that goes into making the arrangements and planning the services. You helped us honor one of the most amazing men in my life, and it meant so much to me personally and to my family. Thank you for everything.
Take care,
Jessie Tuttle
