Racine- It is with great sadness that the family of Dennis R. Viau Sr., 75, announces his passing after an unexpected illness. On September 14, 2017 Dennis received the promise of enteral life with his loving family by his side. He was born in Escanaba, MI, on February 14, 1942, son of the late Walter Viau and Loretta White.

Dennis was united in marriage to his best friend and love of his life, the former Audrey Jean Burmeister in 1967.  Dennis was a loving and committed husband who always put his family first.

Dennis proudly and faithfully served his country as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force.  He worked as a machinist with Jacobsen Manufacturing for more than 30 years. After Jacobsen Manufacturing left the Racine area, Dennis embraced a new career as a Transportation Security Administrator for the Federal Government. In his younger years, Dennis enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed watching boxing on TV and Muhammed Ali was one of his favorite boxers.  He enjoyed fidgeting with electronics and was an avid connoisseur of Apple products.  Dennis was a true family man, who enjoyed traveling with his wife and going out to dinner. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Dennis was a wonderful man that was loved, is missed and will always be cherished.

Dennis leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years, Audrey Viau; children, Cheryl Dixon, Dennis R. Viau, Jr.; grandchildren, Amy (Matt) Soens; great-grandchildren, Austin Soens, Mason Soens; brother, Ellsworth “Ozzie” (Wilma) Viau; sisters-in-law, Sharon (Bill) Catechi, Gloria Chiappetta; brother-in-law, Gary Burmeister; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Dennis is preceded in death by his son, Rick Dixon; in-laws Art and Marian Burmeister; sister, Valerie Frasher; brothers-in-law, George Frasher and Tony Chiappetta; niece, Terri Lewis.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017, 4:00pm until 7:00pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road.  A celebration of Dennis’ life will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 22, 2017, 11:00am.  Visitation on Friday will be from 10:00am until the time of the service.  Burial with full military honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
