Racine– Donald John Zaumeyer, age 76, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, June 10, 2018, at St. Monica’s Senior Living – Memory Care Unit, following a brave struggle with dementia.
Don was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 20, 1941 to the late Gerald and Catharine (nee: Brown) Zaumeyer. A graduate of Brookfield Central High School, he went on to be trained as an electrician at Gateway Technical College. Don faithfully served our Country with the United States Air Force from 1964-68, stationed in Denver, CO but had also served in Thailand.
On June 18, 1966 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Don was united in marriage with the love of his life, Kathleen C. (nee: Garbarek) Zaumeyer. They joyfully celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family & friends in June 2016 with a wonderful reception at Infusino’s.
Don was employed at SC Johnson for over 38 years, retiring as an electrician. Don and Kathy are proud members of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where Don enjoyed volunteering on the building & grounds committee and was always willing to assist with various tasks in the church office. He was a gentlemen’s gentleman, who was a little on the quiet side, but loved his family and circle of friends dearly. He was passionate and meticulous about his automobiles – having owned 19 of them in his lifetime. Above all, Kathy and David were his entire world.
Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 52 years, Kathy; their amazing son, David; other dear relatives and friends – too numerous to mention all by name. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by Kathy’s parents, Clarence & Eva Garbarek; and by Kathy’s sister, Patricia (Joe) Balcer.
