Doris A. Bernhardt

Jul 5, 2006 – Mar 25, 2006

DORIS A. BERNHARDT RACINE – Doris A. Bernhardt, 61, died at St. Mary’s Medical Center on Saturday, March 25, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Merrill, WI on July 5, 1944 to the late Hubert and Ruth (nee: Baumann) Messerschmidt. On April 29, 1967, she married Michael Bernhardt. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1995. Doris and Michael co-owned and operated Bernhardt’s Tavern for over 30 years. She was an avid Packers and NASCAR fan, often to be found wearing either her Mark Chumura or Mark Martin jersey. However, Doris’ greatest joy came from the time spent with her grandchildren. Doris belonged to St. Lucy Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughters, Christie (Mark) Meisner and Cindy (Jeff) Lein of Racine; grandchildren, Nathan and Nicole Meisner, Payden Lein; brothers, Ronald (Joyce) Messerschmidt of Sturtevant, Rodney (Kim) Messerschmidt of Tomahawk, WI; sisters, Donna (Alvin) Forster of Merrill, WI, Bonnie Hill of Rothschild, WI, Lorraine (Ed) Hermanson of Lewiston, ID, Rosanne Kluck of Wausau, WI; dear friend, Darlene Nurmi; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Doris was also preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Allen and Rodger Messerschmidt; brothers-in-law, Dennis Kluck, Raymond “James” Hill, Martin Baran and mother –in-law and father-in-law, Richard and Ethel Bernhardt. Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm for a public visitation. The celebration of her funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lucy Catholic Church (3101 Drexel Ave.) with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. There will also be a visitation in the church on Thursday from 10-11 am. Doris’ family wishes to thank all of the doctors and staff at the All Saints Cancer Center and the nurses and staff on 2D at St. Mary’s for the love and excellent care she received during her illness.
