Julie’s Personal Touch

Racine – Dorothy Jean Lutz, 95, received the promise of eternal life on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. She was born in Racine on June 10, 1921, daughter of the late Henry and Alma (Née: Hansen) Hanson.

Dorothy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Melvin A. Lutz, on May 10, 1944, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Racine. Melvin preceded her in death on April 28, 1998.

Dorothy graduated from Horlick High School in 1939. Early after high school she worked for Zahn’s Grill and Western Publishing. She then was a secretary in purchasing for Webster Electric. Finally, she worked in sales for Young Radiator for 22 years until her retirement in 1986. Dorothy was a member of the Shull club and was grateful for the special circle of “Gimpers” and families. She was also a member of the sewing club at Webster. Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she had been a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, member of the ladies’ aide, Lutheran Women’s Missionary, Trinity Troopers, and where she had cultured many dear friendships.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Susan (David) Van Koningsveld of Gardnerville, NV, Dr. Thomas Lutz of Lawrence, KS; grandchildren, John (Sandy) Van Koningsveld, Claudia Van Koningsveld, Michelle (Matt) Ingram, Linda (Hugh) Talmon; great-grandchildren, Violet, Sydney, Samantha, Anna Liese, Ella; nephew, Lee (Molly) Edmonston, Ronald (Donna) Raahauge; and niece, Sonja (Randy) Barrows.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy is preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Hanson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Walter (Ella) Edmonston, Edna (Erik) Raahauge; and nephew, Scott Edmonston.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016, 1:00pm until 3:00pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road. The celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016, 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2035 Geneva Street. Visitation on Monday will be from 10:00am until the time of the service. Burial will follow services on Monday at Graceland Cemetery.  The family has suggested memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt “Thank You” to the staff at Primrose for the outstanding care given to Dorothy during her time of need.

Dear Tom and Sue and Family,

I just learned of Dorothy’s passing when I was in Racine this weekend. I’m so sorry for your loss. Dorothy was such a wonderful woman of God. I treasure the precious memories from Trinity and the social times with her. My stepniece Stacy Drasen was one of Melvin’s caregivers, so that was special too. God’s peace to you. Your mom had such a servant’s heart. She will be sorely missed.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

We want to thank Mike for the kindness and special attention he gave us for our mother. Marcella Conley. He came in the middle of the night himself to pick her up and take her to the funeral home. For the things that had to be taken care of, he told us not to worry; that it would be taken care of by him. Thank you also Mike for singing at her funeral, especially her favorite song, Amazing Grace. Thank you and all of your staff at Draeger-Langendorf.
