Racine – Elaine Florence Orban, 95, received the promise of eternal life on Friday, December 16, 2016. She was born in South Bend, IN, on October 13, 1921, daughter of the late John and Norma “Lavern” (Née: Petersen) Burant.
Elaine was united in marriage to the love of her life, George Frank Orban, on July 28, 1945, at St. Rose Catholic Church. George preceded her in death on June 15, 1989.
Elaine was a talented knitter. She would make all kinds of treasures for her family and friends. She also loved to make baptismal gowns and bonnets and her famous Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. Elaine also loved to bake. Her family will miss such famous recipes as her homemade kringle and English toffee. Elaine volunteered her time to many places including her children’s schools and Girl Scouts of America as well as church. She was a member of the Webster Girls Sewing Club, The Gimbers (A friend in need is a friend indeed), and Catholic Women’s Club.
Elaine leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Suellen (Lawrence) Kirchoff, Kathleen (James) Beere, Karen (Richard) Riemer; grandchildren, Laura Kirchoff, Kelly (Brett) Hanover, Elizabeth (Dan Hogan) Beere, Jonathan (Jennifer) Beere, Andrew (Caroline) Beere, Christian (Monica) Beere, Matthew (Sarah) Riemer, Michael (Nicole) Riemer, Nathan (Nicole) Riemer; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Burant, Tony Burant; other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elaine is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Burant; sister, Bernice (Arnold) Weidner; and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, 11:00am, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street, with Rev. Terrance J. Huebner officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service. Entombment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials have been suggested to St. Paul the Apostle or to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a sincere “Thank You” to Dr. Carlynn Crevier and Joan Mattice, Elaine’s home healthcare angel, for the love and care given to Elaine during this difficult time.
Laurel (Cress) Celeste says
Karen & Kathy, Please accept my deepest sympathies for your whole family. I still remember her as my girl Scout Leader and having a good time at your house when we were in grade school. For some reason I recall the black rotary phone on your kitchen counter and roller skating. Find comfort in your fond memories.
