Memorial Suggestions

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Word of Faith Family Church.

Esperanza V. Sosa went to be with the Lord, peacefully, in her home on July 10, 2025. Esperanza was born September 16, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Julian and Felicitas (nee: Zepeda) Valadez. As early as eight years old, Esperanza worked in the farm fields to help support the family. Due to the demands of this work, sixth grade was the last year she attended school. During her teenage years, she additionally worked for San Antonio Buick, washing and detailing vehicles for several years, and worked in a bakery with her sisters. At the age of 16, Esperanza married Bonifacio Lozano in San Antonio, TX. They had two sons. In 1948, Esperanza and her family moved to Wisconsin with her parents and many siblings. A few months after the move, her husband, Bonifacio, died in a car accident, leaving her as a widow to raise two small children.

In 1953, she met Joseph Sosa, and they were married on June 20, 1953, in Racine. Together, they had six children. Esperanza worked for St. Mary’s Hospital for a short time. In 1967, she was hired as a CNA employee of Lincoln Lutheran Home and retired 31 years later. She loved the residents and considered them family. Many of them viewed her as a daughter and a good friend. She would always make extra food and bring it to work for her co-workers. Esperanza grew up knowing about God, but in early 1970, Esperanza experienced an encounter with Jesus and devoted her life to serving Him. Esperanza was a member of Word of Faith Family Church. She devoted her life to the Word of God, was a prayer warrior, a faithful servant, and a lovable woman of God. She spent her mornings on her knees in her bedroom or closet, where she would spend time in the Presence of the Lord. She enjoyed early morning walks and would stop strangers to ask them if they knew the Lord. Her mission was to lead as many to the Lord and pray with them, demonstrating her compassionate heart for anyone in need. She loved telling stories of her childhood and would make everyone laugh. Esperanza was a strong, hard-working woman; she constantly gave of her time, energy, and finances. A remarkable Woman of God, a friend of God.

Survivors include 8 children: Pastor Manuel (Carol) Lozano, Albert (Virginia) Lozano, Linda (Robert) Gonzales, Sgt. Major Joseph (Celia) Sosa, Jr., Retired, Jesse (Terry) Sosa, John (Stephanie) Sosa, Lisa (Leonard) Velasquez, and Hope Sosa, 48 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Janie Vasquez. Esperanza is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Julian and Felicita Valadez, and siblings: Severa Hernandez Falkenberg, Tomas Hernandez, Luis Hernandez, Maria Hernandez Murillo, Refugia Valadez Perez, Teodore Valadez, Pastor Manuel Valadez, and Bonifacio Lozano, and Joseph Sosa, her late husbands.

She fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith: henceforth, there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness.
