RACINE – Mrs. Esther R. Kiernan, 84, passed away at Aurora Medical Center in Summit, WI on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 with her children by her side.

She was born in Racine on April 12, 1933, the daughter of the late John and Helen (nee: DeMark) LaBrasca.  She graduated from St. Catherine’s High School.  On March 2, 1957 she married Thomas D. Kiernan at Sacred Heart Church.  He preceded her in death on October 2, 1991.

Earlier in her life, Mrs. Kiernan worked at Racine Hydraulics.  After years of raising her family she went back to work for Hallmark as manager of the card department at Shopko.

Mrs. Kiernan was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church.  She was also an avid Packers fan and season ticket holder with her husband for many years.  Mrs. Kiernan treasured the time spent with her family and friends; especially her longtime high school girlfriends in “Club.”

She is survived by her son, Brian (Christine) Kiernan of Milwaukee; her daughter, Colleen (Paul) Taubner of Delafield; her grandchildren, Shane, Eric, Caitlynn, Ali, Meggi and Dani; her great grandchildren, Janessa, Layla, Naomi; her brothers, Roger (Cheryl) LaBrasca of Iowa and John (Ellen) LaBrasca of Racine; sister-in-law, Agnes LaBrasca of Mount Pleasant; brothers-in-law, Patrick (Ann) Kiernan of Florida, Robert Kiernan of Texas; as well many nieces, nephews and couisns.  In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Kiernan was preceded in death by her grandson, Sammy Kiernan; her brother, Peter LaBrasca and sister-in-law, Connie Kiernan.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Monday, June 26, 2017 for a visitation from 10-11 a.m.  A service remembering and celebrating her life will follow at 11:00 a.m.   Her interment will take place at St. George Cemetery in Kenosha following the service at the funeral home.  The family has suggested memorials to St. Catherine’s High School.

The Kiernan family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Chateau Group Home in Pewaukee for loving attention and care she received while residing at their facility.

Esther and Tom, along with the Papps and Beckers, influenced so many kids lives back in the 70’s when they ran the teen youth group for St. Edwards. Brian and Colleen, while you were growing up-we were as well. Your mom was a special person and I’m thankful to have known her.

Dear Esther has been a friend since 6th grade at Sacred Heart School. I just phoned to talk with her and am in shock to hear the news. We remained friends since then and shared many wonderful childhood memories as well as friendship through high school and our adult years. Along with her many friends and family, I loved her dearly.

Testimonials

March 13, 2025

Thank you so very much for the exemplary care that you provided for both our mom and dad. Your family is extremely kind and exudes much empathy towards others. You and your staff display much professionalism with great talent and attention to detail. Mom and dad were always very particular in their appearance. Mom would say, You are leaving a lasting impression of yourself with someone to remember you by. Your parents taught you boys well; be very proud of that! Love on them, as death is so very permanent.

Holly and I are officially orphans now. It is people like your family and David Huck being there for us, that bring comfort when you are going through one of the most difficult challenges life throws at you.

I thank God every day for our Ostergaard family and will always cherish the memories.

Love you,

Jody Burlingame Wagner
